I do on PCSXR, but I think the key thing is to not mess with the aspect ratio too much, that's when things get weird.

I haven't tried yet, but once I have I'll let you know.

Ah ace! I could imagine PS1 emulation looking amazing at even just 2x internal res on a small screen.

And yeah forcing 16:9 in emulation can be messy. I've decided to keep it on when playing Spider-Man 2 on Dolphin recently, the trade-off being you see lots of pop in+out in the expanded area that would've been hidden in 4:3

Q. Has anyone used a PSP Go as an emulator device and how difficult is it to set up? Always think the machine looks cool and a small dedicated handheld just to play emulators with real controls interests me.formmy bag if I can get one cheap enough.

Installing the custom firmware can be a pain, depending which official firmware you're starting from. But so long as you follow a guide it's pretty plain sailing. There's a PSP build of Retroarch, and obviously it runs PS1 games (converted to .eboots) natively, which should pretty much cover all your bases.

The caveat is, it's a strawberry floating awful console to hold. Five minutes of those raptor claws gives me cramps like all Hell. It does have a TV-Out function and Dualshock 3 connectivity, but honestly I'd recommend any older model over it.

The only thing that put me off re-purposing my PSP was the lack of additional shoulder buttons and the screen isn't quite as impressive as it once was.

Did try Metal Gear Ac!d on my GPD last night and it ran beautifully. Gonna get some more PSP games on there I think.

I have a gpd xd, not really touched it for a while tho. Need to set it up properly but launchbox has been eating up my spare time when not at work. Been doing art, carts and game info for games nothing for, which is a lot and is bleeding time consuming.

Launchbox is a blackhole for time. I've lost entire weekends to getting everything imported with appropriate box art and stuff. Great fun though.

I was going to add some of my PSP games to your google drive but I couldn't work out how to do it.

I also tried using Citra yesterday and didn't have much luck with that either, Persona Q seemed to work but I also tried Bravely Default and that brought up an error message about missing Mii data and having to do a 'system dump' from an actual 3DS, which I assume is a bios file.

Why can't 3DS emulation be as simple as PSP emulation?

Which model was it? The 3000 and Go still have pretty decent screens, though they're still a bit dim compared to what we have in modern devices. Despite some OLED woes, the Vita 1000's was a big step up and even the 2000's LCD was probably better.

Honestly it's something I've experienced a fair bit playing older handhelds recently. I remember thinking the GB Micro's screen was amazing but by modern LCD standards it's very washed out.

I had/have a Japanese launch model (A 1000 series I think). Had to wait for the second allocation of units, but it was worth it. Picked it over the DS as Nintendo had clearly made a horrible mistake with that weird, grey, two-screened, stylus using monstrosity. I mean how could that be any good? :slol: :fp:

I did hack the gooseberry fool out of it at the time though. Loads of emulators, full games and homebrew. Helped identify a game-breaking bug in Monkey Island on the ScummVM port. It just got to a point (In the last half hour of the game) where you couldn't complete it. Was well chuffed when that got fixed. :D

Ha, I was flying the DS flag myself and definitely felt outnumbered in that regard. It's very easy to forget just how much the press was favouring the PSP at the time, I remember this image making the rounds:

Image
(quick aside; I never noticed the one on the left is playing Rally-X!)

Funny thing is by the time I finally got a PSP in 2010, non-Japanese interest in it had dropped off a cliff. Two of my favourite Retronauts episodes are the PSP and DS ones where they speak from the perspective of being in the press at the time.

Awesome anecdote on the ScummVM bug! I do remember excitement on PSP homebrew arising very early into its life

If you find said file (youtube has links) it goes there C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Citra\sysdata

Now i've added my SNES lineup to launchbox - there were a surprising number of F1 games on it and lots of great shmups.

Couldn't see Castlevania: Rondo of Blood or Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rinne in the TurboGrafix16-CD folder so added it.

SNES gets a bad rap for SHMUPs due to slowdown but it's got some absolute gems: R-Type 3, Pop'n TwinBee, Gradius III, Parodius (+ JPN only sequels) Super Aleste, UN Squadron, Axelay.

Probably more I've forgotten!

There's a zip/rar file in the Romset folder. I didn't have a separate folder of curated games for it so I just uploaded the full set I had.

Adding a few things that might be of interest.

Some GameCube games I was missing (1080 Avalanche, Metroid Prime 1 + 2, Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins and Tales of Symphonia).
Also added a few PSP games (Ridge Racer, AVP Requiem, Mercury, Blood Bowl, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Little Big Planet, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Parodius Portable, Phantasy Star Portable, Power Stone Collection, White Knight Chronicles: Origins, Wipeout Pure). More PSP games will be forthcoming in the near future.

I also found and uploaded a very interesting little curiosity. Apparently there was supposed to be a PSP version of Oblivion released years back, which was cancelled. Well the in-development version got leaked and is playable. It's not a full game (I think there's a couple of hours of content at most), but it's really interesting to see what could have been. It's called "The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion" and was the fourth portable Elder Scrolls game (2 Java RPGs and an NGage game came out apparently). Definitely worth a look.

These should all be uploaded overnight.

If anyone has an copy of Jet Set Radio for Dreamcast, would you mind adding it. All I can find is Jet Grind Radio, which I refuse to put up on the basis that it's a strawberry floating stupid name and an example of the US market being twats.

I never understood why they changed the name for the US version.

Utterly baffling.
