The emulator is CEMU and I'm guessing the Zelda iso is available on the high seas.

It's fairly easy to rip your own Wii U discs with a Wii U console these days.

Absolutely incredible that we've reached the point where a game released on console last month is now playable on an emulator.

Is it really? The games are developed on PCs after all. I am curious though how people put these emulators together in the first place, have they used leaked code from the devkits? I find it difficult to believe it can be done without that happening.

Isn't Wii U hardware only about Xbox 360 x 1.5? Modern gaming PCs should be able to brute force that to work.

I actually think the Wii U will be the last really difficult console to emulate (along with the PS3, which I hear still isn't quite there yet), so it's really cool to see the problem basically solved. It was less powerful than its contemporaries for sure, but its architecture doesn't map well to your usual gaming PC set up so that's what made it tough.

The PS4 and XBO are much more 'PC-like' internally, and my understanding is that the Switch has a fairly standard tablet architecture -- those are a somewhat simpler case, mostly about waiting for PC hardware to git gud (& I expect to see Switch emulation sooner rather than later, to be honest).

This certainly throw up a moral quandry. I would really like to play BotW but I'm not willing (or able) to shell out for a WiiU or a Switch.

Give me a linear Zelda any day of the week. Open world can strawberry floating do one.

That was one of my reservations in the lead up to BotW, despite how fun it sounded in previews. Over 40 hours later, I'm still excited and I've barely touched the main story.

It probably helps that there aren't many quest icons in BotW and I'm adding markers to the map myself to remind me of things that I want to explore later when I'm stronger or figured out how to solve a puzzle. Instead of being a checklist surrounded by an open world, it's an open world that I want to explore to find its secrets.

It's the same reason why Sega Saturn emulation is still far from perfect, the hardware isn't anything like what is commonly seen in modern PCs.

Even in its day the Saturn was a difficult machine to work on and very few developers (other than Sega's internal teams) could get decent performance from it.

I'll definitely go back to botw when the emulator is running flawlessly. For now it's 100% on the wii u, but God I wish I could have that resolution bump right now as my pc is more than up to it.

This should net a good FPS boost

-In 1.7.4 you can use disableGPUfence via the editing the correct file in your Gameprofiles folder under CEMU. Locate the one that corresponds to your game: USA is 00050000101c9400, for EU 00050000101c9500, and for JPN 00050000101C9300.

Open it up and add this to it:

First time using CEMU so is there a away of having it run at 1080p? Checked the Gameprofiles and they were already set to those values. Do you also use Vsync?

Looks flipping lovely but there are quite a few dips from 30fps. 4k pack is enabled too.
