For me the way shader compilation works for RPCS3 basically makes it not worth using. You essentially have to play everything twice. Once to generate the shaders at a horrendously slow speed, before going back and playing it at the proper speed with the shaders already compiled. Unless I'm missing something, that's not really something I'm willing to do unfortunately.

At least with Cemu I have the option of getting a pre-compiled shader cache.

Tafdolphin wrote:Are there any functional 360 emulators out there? Had a quick look but the ones that I could see play maybe 5 games really badly...

Not as far as I'm aware. Which I don't quite understand as there are loads of great 360 games so you would expect people would be pushing to get one that works well.

Seems like a continuation of the OG Xbox which still doesn't have a viable emulator (AFAIK) through lack of interest it seems.

Super Mario Maker on my PC.

I'm in heaven. Or I would be if the online functionality worked. Hope they find a way around it so you can access uploaded levels in the game rather than having to hack the save games to play levels made on the Cemu version.

Mario Kart 8 also runs ridiculously well (At least after it's compiled all the shaders for a course).

Still playing around with it to get BOTW and a few other games to work but damn this is impressive stuff.

So I got Mario Maker working online through Cemu so I can access levels made on Wii U.

Here's one of the levels from the AYAMMM final a month or so ago.

Truly the greatest of times.

So, where are people getting their 3DS roms from?

Just tried downloading Fire Emblem Awakening only for the site to launch some sneaky little popup which I immediately closed and ran Malwarebytes (1 threat detected and removed).

Through the years I've worked tirelessly with the rest of the EmuParadise team to ensure that everyone could get their fix of retro gaming. We've received thousands of emails from people telling us how happy they've been to rediscover and even share their childhood with the next generations in their families. We've had emails from soldiers at war saying that the only way they got through their days was to be lost in the retrogames that they played from when they were children. We've got emails from brothers who have lost their siblings to cancer and were able to find solace in playing the games they once did as children. There are countless stories like these.

I'm honestly surprised it took that long for them to get a serious "C&D" notice. I'm genuinely annoyed as they were easily the best site for getting ROMS. Luckily I've recently downloaded almost everything I wanted from them, but the gaps that I do have are going to be a pain in the arse to fill now.

Something will arrive to take it's place. Lets just hope it's not shite.

Could Nintendo's recent spate of legal action against rom sites indicate they're about to announce something VC related?

Of course the good site with safe downloads, no bullshit and an extensive library gets shut down. Its almost as if people want to play old games on newer hardware, but publishers (Nintendo) have to be the dog in the manger.

It was genuinely the best place to get ROMs. As you say, safe downloads, no bullshit and a vast library with loads of obscure and rare gems hidden inside that other sites just didn't have. It even had complete ROMsets and pre-patched translations and hacks.

But it was completely, utterly illegal. Nintendo are well within their rights to request they stop, so I can't blame them for complying.

Like I said I'm surprised it stayed active as long as it has and I'm going to miss it.

Though I wonder where Nintendo will get the games for their VC releases now.

strawberry float.

Emulation is the only way I can play a lot of older console games and I hate having to trawl through dodgy sites to find roms, the one site I trusted to be relatively safeis gone and I really am annoyed by this news.

It's not like most of the stuff they hosted could actually be bought legally even if you wanted to.
And what you could buy would often go for ridiculous money, and/or require hardware that's increasingly aging and unrepairable.

I’m gutted to see them go but not surprised. With their help my laptop is full of more retro games than I can shake a stick at. I should probably think about backing up my ROM directories in the event of my laptop going belly up especially considering I lost hundreds of gigabytes worth of ill gotten album downloads under similar circumstances a few years ago.

Yeah I'm backing all mine up to an external drive and my Google Drive as well. Gonna take ages, I've got about 653 Gb of games last time I checked and that's only in my Launchbox set up where I've supposedly been a bit "pickier" about what's there.  :fp: :fp:

I dread to think how much space mine will take up since I have nigh complete collections of Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, SG-1000, Master System/Mark III, Mega Drive/Genesis and Amiga games not to mention a shedload of NES, SNES and MAME ROMs.

I recently deleted a complete Turbo Grafx/PC Engine collection and a load of PlayStation ISOs, I’m never getting those back now :fp:

The biggest chunk of space for me is taken up with PS1 (Around 180), PS2 (Around 120), Wii (100 ish), GC (60 ish), Wii U (15-20) and PS3 (3, but they're huge files). Everything else is small enough to be negligible.

But anything that came on any form of disc takes time to upload. First thing I uploaded last night was the Wii NSMB Hack, which was around 4gb.

My laptop is too weedy to run anything much newer than PlayStation. I tried emulating GameCube and although Double Dash booted up it ran about as fast as a slideshow. Oddly enough I can run Deathsmiles on MAME just fine and that came out in 2007 making it the most recent game I have successfully had running.

PSone emulation is surprisingly comprehensive on even relatively weedy hardware these days. It still astounds me that you can play PS1 games, with some upscaling on a Raspberry Pi.

PS2 is getting there as well in terms of compatibility. It's not quite Dolphin levels of coverage, but it's still impressive. Still requires a fairly beefy system though.

Once I've got my entire collection backed up I may entertain "requests" for a shared link. :shifty:

It's pretty neat how you can alleviate the 'warbling' to some extent on PS1 games too, though it does vary. It's surprising how great they can look at higher resolutions; '2.5D' games particularly benefit as the sprites almost never lose detail, even when the camera zooms far out.

I was just amazed at how despite a couple of minor compatibility issues (Dragon Quest VII I'm looking at you) the latest version of ePSXe could find cover art for your games like iTunes does. I wish more emulators did that, the only other one I use which does is UAE.
