According to emulator zone the newer versions of PJ64 are full of malware so they recommend you stick with older versions.

Hmm thanks for sharing that Salad, I'm at work at the moment but will have to check which version I downloaded (got it off Emuparadise). Probably one of the malware ones, knowing my luck.

I'm using version 1.6 which has been fine. Runs everything well, no ads or prompts for donations, etc.

So with DS emulators, what sort of input can you use? Doesn't the lack of a stylus cause issues?

You use the mouse or phone touchscreen, innit.

Mouse for stylus controls and keyboard/gamepad for the buttons.

The majority of games work fairly well with this control method but ones that use both stylus and buttons (The World Ends With You for example) can be a little tricky.

A lot of later DS games more or less abandoned touch screen controls anyway apart from using them as a quicker way to access menu options.

I see I see... might have to check that out then. I know the wife would love to play Animal Crossing on a larger screen. And Pokemon for me :shifty:

Speaking of which, anyone know how the real-world time mechanic in Animal Crossing translates into an emulator? You'd be playing it on your DS at 6pm and in the game it'll be 6pm and the sun will be setting etc, I'm guessing that wouldn't happen in emulation?

If memory serves anything involving an internal clock can't be emulated properly. Games work but the internal clock feature doesn't. Like in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald you get an error message saying the internal battery is dead.

Animal Crossing works fine on DeSmuME, the emulator uses the PCs internal clock for the time.

I guess that makes sense. I've only dabbled with DS emulation so wasn't really sure how it would work. I just knew that internal clock features didn't work in emulated GBA games unless that has changed now too.

I really need to get around to playing Bayonetta 2. I bought the Wii U double pack and have only played the first one so far.

If they fix the emulation though I might just rip the disc and emulate it.

Had a whole evening free last night to play about with my various emulators and I think I've encountered the one problem with emulation that I didn't really foresee (or at least see as a negative) - TOO MANY GAMES!

I've got so many games available across so many systems, it's a real struggle to pick a game and stick with it for any real length of time. For example, last night I "played":

Perfect Dark
Goldeneye
Chrono Trigger
Zelda 2
Aladdin
Shadow of the Colossus
Super Mario Sunshine
Luigi's Mansion

All within a 3 hour window :lol:

Really need to work on my discipline :fp:

I'm the same. I downloaded a bunch of complete ROM collections a while back, most of which I have no intention of ever playing but i just found it easier to download everything just in case.

I remember having this feeling back in the day when playing with ZNES and the like, I never owned a SNES and so to suddenly have access to hundreds of games I ended up not really appreciating or enjoying many of them.

I've been taking it easy so far, just two of the Zeldas, MK (Wii version), Silent Hill (Wii) and F-Zero GX (GC). Stupid really, I don't have enough time for my PS4 games and PC legit games, so finding time for emulators probably isn't going to happen and it will prove to be nothing more than a novelty.
