Thats a great idea Dev! What if you then took out the air defences to allow for a fast travel option? Man that would be cool. Congrats! You just made Metroid Prime even better. :toot:

Of the big 3 Ninty series on the cube Prime is certainly the best. You are kind of making me want to finally play it again. I got the trilogy on Wii U but never went back to it. :fp:

As much as I liked playing the Trilogy on the Wii, I really missed having the standard GCN aiming reticle...

To be fair I don't even notice it anymore, but yeah the original reticule was nice.

Just finished the "Prologue" section of Corruption. Definitely more combat heavy than the others and you can tell that it's the one designed around the Wiimote. Works very well though.

My first Christmas home from Uni was in 2007 and, having endured three/four months without any consoles, I had Corruption and Mario Galaxy waiting for me when I got back. Man, what a Christmas. I was saving Galaxy for Christmas Day and managed to beat the final boss on Corruption on Christmas Eve.

The Prime games are all really robust, enjoyable titles. As people say in the Metroidvania thread, there's something very familiar and satisfying about the formula, and the Prime games always had a great sense of place and atmosphere. The first person viewpoint really helped with some of the impressive verticality and scale at times, allowing you to glimpse an identical structures or barely disturbed alien vistas.

True, Samia was much more like a walking tank than in the 2D games, where she's fast and agile, but I don't think you could have had both the first person viewpoint and that rapid gameplay.

Other M tried it in 3D though. I actually think that game is really.underrated. Has some suspect choices, the plot is like a bad anime and the arbitrary locking of abilities is badly disguised but it played really well.

Beat Samus Returns 100% last night. My little friend.

The final Metroid fight was ace. Tough but damn good. The "escape" was lovely. Then the surprise Ridley fight was epic but perhaps a little generic after some of the inventive stuff earlier. Plus he did a really strawberry floating cheap couple of moves which were almost impossible for me to dodge. One did massive damage which forced me to have to redo the fight a number of times. But it was still cool. The backdrop  :o

I'm not that familiar with the original so I cant be sure about whats been added/changed but I do think that they took the time to add some incidental stuff that ties it into the rest of the series in a better way. It owes a lot of its look and feel to the Prime game for sure. The environments have that broken geometry look and it works really well in 3D.

I wish it was still a little easier to switch beams and missiles etc. in the middle of battle. I think the new additions are all really good but I'd probably prefer if they held back the scan pulse till later on. Or had it be something that got upgraded part way through. I really like the convenience it brings (no more just randomly bombing every tile in blind hope) but it probably hinders that sense of isolation a little too much in the early stages. The fact that everything is brutal makes up for it a bit.

Love being able to punch things in the face.

Bit of a shame that the spiderball power bomb jump wasnt used for anything more then collectibles. Because that gooseberry fool is amazing.

The unlockable art story is nice. Fittingly mysterious. The soundtrack is really good to. :datass:

I've got Samus Returns coming to me. Looking forward to getting it, and putting some time into it.

And just polished off Corruption.

Took longer than I thought as I sidelined it for a week or two for Spider-Man, but still a solid game.

Definitely feels more linear and I'm not sure I like the smaller, more contained locations compared to Prime and Echoes, but a fantastic game to end off the trilogy.

Can't wait for 4. :D :D :D

Onto Samus Returns!

Mercury Steam did a really job with Samus Returns. I'm actually impressed. It's a way better game than Mirror of Fate.

Need to get back to this again. Restarted it through Citra and I'm onto the second main area, but got distracted by other stuff in the past week or so.

It's not better than Metroid Fusion or Super Metroid, but I'll take it anyway.

Probably the biggest complaint is the progression in it being tied to killing Metroids. It doesn't really have a big bad yet, and it feels a bit aimless.

Saying that, I'm still impressed Mercury Steam put this out on what appears to be the same crappy engine they used for Mirror of Fate.

You bet your energy tank we are :datass:

Since I never got around to it, hopefully this year will be the year I play prime 3 as my Christmas game

It pains me that I have to get up for work tomorrow. I normally wouldn't give two hoots about the Game Awards, but I would happily stay up for just the hint of a Metroid Trailer.

Bloody American-Centric shite. Pretty sure it's getting later each year too.

I never finished Metroid Prime 2 [bought MP3 but never played it], I'd be up for a HD Trilogy Remaster. It be soo cool if it was Bluepoint who was doing the remasters, I'm sure I read Bluepoint's president worked at Retro Studios or Iguana Entertainment.

Surely metroid prime trilogy HD is a shoe in if prime 4 is the end of next year?

I'd buy it, provided they update the visuals accordingly.

I just replayed all three on Dolphin a couple of months ago and I'd happily start them over again on the Switch.

If they’re announcing an early 2019 Trilogy HD and holiday 2019 MP4 release, I wonder if we could even get a shadow drop of a 2D Metroid like Samus Returns on the Switch eshop tomorrow.
