Is that it? I won't bother then.

I love the music to Magmoor Caverns but Phendrana Drifts is just as good and a better area overall. I've just made my way to Phendrana through Magmoor and saved after exploring a bit. The Baby Sheegoths were bigger than I remember.

Funnily enough, I always thought that it was Phendra Drifts, not Phendrana. I only realised earlier this year when I stopped to read the name properly as I was listening to the music from it.

Forgot how good that was. Although Samus suffering from PTSD in the cutscene before this was a little weird. She's kicked Ridley's ass so many times before Other M, it was utterly bizarre.

I guess it was more based on the comic. And she does go on to kick ass once more :datass:

Only twice before Other M, and the second time she killed him and any remains exploded with Planet Zebes, so I think well within her right to be surprised.

I've picked up the boost ball and space jump boots so I'm going back over old territory to see what I can find. I came across the ruins with the artifact totem poles in my travels so I've already got my first artifact. I love exploring the world because it makes great use of Samus' abilities and the music is so wonderful that I've yet to get tired of it, even though I've been listening to it for years

In fairness to Other M, it seems it's biggest crime was not being Prime 4. The gameplay is interesting, the control scheme is innovative and it feels like a Metroid game. The story isn't even as bad as people make out (although it is very similar to that of Fusion). Two minor annoyances for me were the reason they gave for locking certain weapons and abilities away and those stupid first person pixel hunt sections, otherwise, Other M is a perfectly serviceable Metroid game, which any fan of the series should give a chance to.

I hate motion controls so much  Can see me skipping this due to the horrible control method. I'll have to hold out hope they make it gamepad compatible.

Have you actually tried it? I found that once I was used to them I wouldn't want to play the game any other way

The controls are amazing. I think that you're overplaying the motion controls aspect because Prime 1 doesn't require much effort to play. I was playing it in bed last night and I barely had to move my hand to aim. It was like the Wiimote was a mouse.

The only way GamePad support will be added to Metroid Prime is if the first two games are rereleased as GameCube titles. The Trilogy is designed around motion controls and was changed in parts to reflect this.

I forgot to mention earlier, Flaahgra gave me a lot of trouble when I played this on the GameCube. This time I beat it on my first try :datass: I reloaded because I forgot to scan its tentacle :fp: and that fight was tougher because I ran out of missiles and fell into the poisoned water. Luckily Samus had enough energy left to take out Flaaghra.

I think a lot of people disliked Other M because Samus spoke.
But strawberry float them, silent protagonists can sod off in a game world where everyone else is talking. It's about time Samus got a voice, along with Link.

I think a lot of people decided Other M was a travesty before playing it, it didn't help that reviewers totally underscored it, but then they seemed to be on a mission to get everything wrong last gen.

Calling it a 'serviceable Metroid' is pretty harsh as well I think. My only issues with it were the bland setting, contrived plot and terrible acting. If you sorted those out and maybe gave it a bit more of the Prime series exploration and lore I think you'd have a Super Metroid beater. It seems hopeless to want them not to ditch the format but I'd absolutely love another in that style. The weird 2D pseudo 3D format could not be more perfect for Metroid.

I've picked up the thermal visor and the spider ball now. Thardus, to get the spider ball, wasn't too tough but it did take a while to beat him as I ran out of missiles after only taking off about a quarter of his energy. I've now found another entrance into Magmoor Caverns so it's time for some sweaty spelunking.

I managed to pick up another artifact from the Sunchamber as I went backtracking to areas I remember being inaccessible due to my gear. I knew that I'd be getting an artifact because I remembered it being mentioned on one of the pillars but I was worried that I went there too early when I saw the Chozo Ghosts and thought that I needed the X-ray visor to beat them. They took some time to beat but overall it wasn't too bad.

During my backtracking, I was pleased to see that some of the enemy placements had been changed. Sheegoths and Flying Space Pirates now occupy some areas of the map which makes backtracking more interesting. A great touch was seeing Samus jump up in the air when a Sheegoth stomped around, even though Samus was on a ledge above the Sheegoth

I ended up in the Temple of Light and I ran out of missiles trying to ascend it and pick up whatever was shown at the top in a cutscene. When I couldn't find more missiles, I went back to Samus' gunship to resupply and try another area. I ended up giving it one more go and was just one super missile away, I think, as I missed a shot thanks to an Oculus on the broken wall.

I eventually made my way to the Hall of Elders and I've progressed from there to find the Ice Beam and save my game. I love exploring the world and working out what to do. My aim is to get 100% of the items and scans so I'm trying to do as much as I can on my own before looking at a guide for the rest. I'm keeping track of the rooms in which I find items so that it isn't too hard to work out what I've missed.

You just know you'll get to the end and it'll come up 99% because you missed a tiny scan somewhere.

I did that when I played through on the GC, think I missed one scan on the Hive boss.
