Nah. The Animals are from Zebes. The X-Parasite comes from SR388. The station gets infected when they take her Power suit for examination after she's merged with it. The animals are there, but they aren't the source of the outbreak. [/metroidnerd]

From what I've seen this is true. There is a "star" that leaves the planet in the background when you save them. I might go back and do it myself to check tomorrow. Makes me laugh that they couldn't escape on their own yet somehow pilot a ship away. Apparently my game is stuffed because you cant go backwards from the last save point. :x

I don't know a lot about Metroid lore so I'm sure I missed a lot of story bits across the game. I'm not even sure I understand who Ridley Scot and Cheeky Brain were. Or the other bosses in the statue. Were they just beasts? Or important beings?

Despite having a number of frustrations with it I think it holds up really well. Certain things could be better explained and the map could be better. One way doors can go strawberry float themselves and so on. Its hard to but I can imagine why at the time it must have been a big deal. Glad to have added to the list of things I've finally played.

I'd like to make a poster for the game one day.

Started MP3 yesterday. Never did finish it when it first came out but I remember it being better. Just at the 'one month later" point. Will I get to land on a planet soon and do some proper adventuring? I barely remember this game at all. I think the first Prime is my favourite.

Also, didn't the evil Samus get killed in MP2? It wasn't that long ago that I played it but I really can't remember.

I don't think I've ever died so much in a Metroid game as I have in Fusion.

First play through of fusion has a lot of points where game overs will happen frequently. The points that come to mind for me are the second security robot fight, Yakuza (the spider), the forced SA-X encounter, and the SA-X boss fight.

I've only completed it once before and that was years ago. I'm actually just at the spider fight just now, remember having trouble with that before and the others you mention. For all the daft criticism that gets levelled at Other M, there's a ton of problems with this game deviating from the usual Metroid formula. I forgot how linear it was for starters.

Had an itch to play Prime so I spent a couple of hours tonight playing the prime trilogy version. It's easy to forget how good a game is sometimes. I think one day I'll try and pick up the American version so I can do a play through with the early space jump.

Yeah, it opens up a bit after the intro sequence. But it's definitely not as interconnected as the previous games. But it has some great areas with excellent lore attached to them. I love MP3 a lot. I think they had to do a game like this to finish up the Trilogy.

To answer your question.

It's not truly dead at the end of MP2. If you get 100% in that game, there's a secret scene past the credits where it shows Dark Samus rematerialising. I don't want to say more, in case of spoilers for MP3.

Ah cool, thank you. I got 100% in MP but didn't bother for 2. Think I got 83% on that one. Already forgot to scan Ridley in MP3 so I won't worry too much about scanning everything.

Started AM2R last night, it's pretty bloody good isn't it? I've never played Metroid 2 before so it's all new to me, but I'm enjoying myself a lot so far.

In all honesty the only 2D Metroid I've ever really played was Fusion which I loved on the GBA back in the day, this feels very similar in terms of control etc. Is that true of the original version or have they changed it to fit more the Fusion/Super Metroid feel?

Haven't encountered too many troubles so far, but I've only tackled two of those Alpha Metroid creatures.

Just watched this-

Actually helped me appreciate again just how brilliant the intro is just as a piece of games design. With the one blemish being not explaining how to turn into the morph ball. You get the instructions for missiles and bombs which to me makes that seem even more odd. Maybe some of the platforms could be a little kinder to but I think thats more just the age of the game.

The morph ball area I found really well designed. It forces you to figure it out, while at the same time making you aware of Samus limits in terms of jump height and that you can destroy different types of blocks by shooting them.

That said I'd played Metroid II before Super Metroid came out so I already knew how the morph ball worked.

In related news the gf got me a sweet Metroid T-Shirt for Valentines. I'm already picking out a ring.

I haven't seen a decent Metroid shirt, well, ever. I'd love one with the Metroid logo - the morph ball with lightning bolt design - but nowhere does that. :(

Simple and sharp. She wouldn't tell me where she got it though. But I'm loving it. :D

I would love that if I could get it in a different color. Don't wear many black shirts these days...

That was a fun 3 days. Felt like I had too many missiles though, it did make the Metroid Prime fight very fast and easy so I guess it evens out.

Not sure when I'll play Primes 2 and 3 again, might give prime an any % run on hyper mode or something. It'll also give me a chance to fill the 3 creatures missing from my log book. But that'll be for another time.

Edit: why is it upside down? brb fixing it.
