I've been playing Metroid: Samus Returns and absolutely loving it.

I would love to see a Prime Trilogy re-release in full HD, with glorious new textures and effects and whatnot. It'd make a great pre-Prime 4 release, get people hyped up.

I'm hoping they'll do "something" for Super Metroids 25th. Even if it's a re-release of the Prime Trilogy in HD (with optional controls for 1+2) it'd be better than nothing. It would make sense with Prime 4 coming as well.

Though I'm not getting my hopes up. This is the company that did precisely strawberry float all for the series 30th Anniversary apart from send C&D letters to the AM2R devs (Though with the subsequent reveal and release of Samus Returns that's more understandable).

Metroid goes through the most depressing cycles of boom and bust.

I'd welcome Metroid 5 but they can keep their hands off Super Metroid. There's nothing they can do to that game beyond the most minor of QOL additions that I would consider an improvement.

They could pretty it up, but I'd be afraid they'd make it look 3D instead of doing the hand drawn artwork I'd prefer.

See I don't even want them to touch the graphics. It still looks awesome.
My fear is they revamp the movement physics and artstyle to be more in line with Fusion and Zero Mission which, while I enjoy both of those games, isn't what I want from Super.
I'd argue that it's perfect as it is and ANY changes made to the graphics, audio or core gameplay will be to it's detriment.

If they want to do a new art-style for the series they should do it for Metroid 5.

I think it could look a bit prettier tbh, but it's such a beloved game that it should come with the option to just use the original visuals as well. Movement controls and feel shouldn't be changed though, but unless they do a full remake (unlikely) I don't see that happening.

I really want to see more of Fusion Samus in 5, and in 3D games. I think there's a ton of potential for new upgrades etc there.

Not in Super. :capnscotty:

Forgot just how good Prime is. Just got the Power Bombs and I'm ready to go destroy a load of stuff that's been in my way for a while now. Pretty sure I get the Grapple and Plasma Beams soon as well. 8-)

Not looking forward to the Artifact hunt later on, but I've already got three of them and I'm sure the others will come back to me with time.

Let's be honest, the artifact hunt was nowhere near as bad as people make out. It gave me a chance to say goodbye to each area of a beloved game world in turn, a little farewell tour, and I'm thankful for that.

Yeah it's not too bad, but it does feel a little like padding, especially after spending so long going through all the areas multiple times already.

It's certainly better the 2nd/3rd time around as you already have an idea of where you'll find them.

It's still an amazing game and easily the best the GameCube has to offer (Though Wind Waker comes very close).

Artifact hunt (mostly) done.

Just got one more to get (In the Phazon Mines) then it's Ridley and onward to the end of the game.

It really does hold up even this many years later. Phenomenal game.

I'd never considered that one before.

Not sure I'd be able to do the whole game on a stream (It usually takes me about 3 hours normally) if it's randomised, but it's something I'll look at. Planning on working through Prime Trilogy first though. So my plan is to finish Prime tonight and then maybe start Echoes as well.

EDIT: Found a randomiser here: https://randommetroidsolver.pythonanywhere.com/
Might mess about with it a bit later on.

A channel I follow is doing a ROM that mashes ALTTP and Super Metroid together, it's nuts.

I saw that pop up when I googled the Metroid one earlier. Certainly sounds mental.

I've been watching Earfolds and Jazzem do OoT randomisers. It's the new in thing Dev. All the cool kids do it now.

Pft. I'm too cool for that stuff. :datass:

Seriously though I do fancy trying the Metroid one at some point. I remember watching a Randomised LTTP race at GDQ once and it was great seeing the two guys (Who couldn't see each others screens) tearing around the map looking for the items. I definitely get the impression being familiar with the game will help, so hopefully I wouldn't suck too much at the Super Metroid one.

Trying out AM2R now after finishing Samus Returns, interesting to compare and contrast. It's a taste thing but I 100% prefer pixel art over polygonal/2.5D. I know some of the assets are cribbed from the GBA games but man it's pretty. I tried a little Metroid Prime on Dolphin earlier, it plays fine but I still cannot get to grips with no right thumbstick to look.

I'd love a proper new 2D metroid, I'm not so keen on how linear 2 is (but then I did complete Axiom Verge twice on PS4 and switch so I can't complain that might as well be metroid 5).

From what I've heard Dolphin can be configured in such a way that the Metroid Prime Trilogy versions of the game can be played with a Mouse and Keyboard. Might be worth looking into see if that's an option for you.

Not sure I can go back to the pad controls for those games to be honest as the Wiimote just works so damn well. Definitely can't go back to the SD versions after playing it in HD.
