PostWill Sony or Microsoft announce a pricecut at E3?

Given that both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 have been profitable for a reasonable amount of time now it seems logical to me that both could afford to cut the price of their console a bit more and still be profitable. E3 would seem a good opportunity to announce such a move but do you think it'll happen?

Both will. Maybe not at E3, but both will come down before the end of the summer.

I don't know why Microsoft would cut the price. The console is doing better than ever in the US.

Sony need a price cut, MS not so much since they are already on top in sales at their current price.

Yeah I think both will drop.

MS are going to be in a pretty good position I think, hopefully they'll have quite a lot of unseen games to show, Kinect stuff to talk about and the price drop.

Sony are going to be in for a rough time of it at E3 I think.

I don't think either will drop in price. Xbox is already pretty cheap and the PS3 will rely on all the great exclusives lined up to sell consoles.

If there is going to be a price drop it will be nearer the end of the year.

European cut for MS, nothing for Sony. I don't think Sony can afford it, they're barely profitable as it is.

I think they've just lost, or are about to lose, a hell of a lot of money.

Their Network Products and Services division made a profit of $564m for the third quarter ending 31st December. It's now lumped in there with Vaio however, so it's not all PlayStation. Sony did mention significant cost reductions of PlayStation 3 hardware as a reason, mind.

Sony might knock off $50, but MS? Can't see it.

Sony, I think have to now to redeem themselves to the public. Microsoft, a maybe, depending what they reveal at E3. If it's just the usually dirge topped off with Kinect dirge then they will go the way of the Wii

They'll go the way of the most popular console of recent times...yeah I'm sure they'd see that as as problem.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they want.

Haven't Microsoft already had a pricecut and have cheapish Kinect bundles?

I'm sure Sony will issue a price cut at some point this year.

Sony certainly need a price drop for their cheapest SKU, this far into it's life-cycle and the PS3 still doesn't feel mainstream.

I'd speculate on a Move bundle, but not a price cut. Sony is always the most expensive console. This helps them maintain their 'premium' image (and also make less of a loss on each unit sold)

what great "exclusives"...
if its anything like those we have had like Little Big Planet 1.5 or Killzone, then please.... don't confuse great "exclusives" with having a lot of exclusives.

This.

I would say they both need to size up the potential threat of project Cafe before reacting.
