Will there ever be a new rugby game

Im waiting patiently for a new rugby game to be made for the 360/PS3 does anyone know if there is one in development?

Apparently EA still hold the rights, but they don't consider it to be worth it to make a new game.

Even if they did, Wales would still get the English cover.

EA used to develop a rugby game. I think the last one was 2008 but there's been nothing since then.

I still play World Championship Rugby from time to time, which is fairly old now (2004).

It's very arcade-like, but still pretty enjoyable. I never played EA Rugby 2008, but I heard it wasn't all that. It's strange, rugby isn't *that* much of a niche sport, no more so than cricket, yet that gets fairly frequent iterations developed.

Maybe EA are planning something to coincide with the World Cup in 2011? We can hope...

I remember playing Rugby 2008, decided to play my first match as Wales V England, Wales at home, natch. Queue my utter horror at the game makers decision to not make the Millennium Stadium Wales' home ground. Instead, I ended up playing in strawberry floating Cardiff Arms Park, and they'd even gone and rendered the MS in the background, as if to rub it in somehow. :fp:

I read that EA have started developments on a rugby game to coincide with the next World Cup.

All I remember about the last Rugby game I played was seemingly random numbers of players getting involved at the breakdown, piss poor kicking in open play and a near impossible to break defensive line because you couldn't see far enough on either side to see if a long pass was viable :fp:

I heard that they are trying to convert the old games onto XBLA/PSN.

Here's hoping.

I'd like an updated version of Jonah Lomu Rubgy on PSn/XBLA. I loved that when I was younger.

As an avid rugby fan, I hope there is a new line out of games soon seen as we've been waiting a while.

i think the difference between cricket and rugby is that cricket is a lot easier to simulate, and would therefore cost less to develop, and therefore wouldn't need to sell as well to make money...if you were to consider the AI required for a convincing game of rugby, it would be on par with a footy game, cricket could be broken down much more simply.

It's a shame, but the sales of rugby games never justify spending a lot of money on their development, which then guarantees poor sales for the next iteration...

It's a vicious cycle, unfortunately.

It really isn't. Its a complete mess of a game.

Madden back on MD was awesome, nowadays its a pile of gooseberry fool.

Getting back on topic a good Rugby game would be great, I'd have thought theres got to be a market for it (in a similar way that theres a market for a Cricket game).

I've been looking forward to a new rugby game for ages, make it happen EA! I was hoping they were planning for a release to coincide with the World Cup next summer when interest will be highest, but I would have thought there would have been some news by now.

I'm surprised there isn't more Mungoball games, seeing as it's much simplier than union.
