Going on from the threads original title in regards to outgrowing video games, now that my retro collection has reached a level I'm happy with it's time to put into action a plan I'd quietly promised myself.

No more video game buying on any platform now or for the foreseeable future.

I'd already decided I wasn't going to invest in the next generation as you well know, (or upgrade my PC further) , but, and after much thought, I decided now it's time to also stop buying games altogether. I've hundreds of titles, some unplayed, and with little to nothing on the horizon that really interests me now is as good a time as any to put the breaks on. Doesn't mean I've outgrown video games as I'm still gaming on a regular basis, but I no longer feel the need to keep buying.

I'd struggle to name a hundred good games, and the older ones I did name probably haven't aged well.

I only buy 3/4 new games a year (God of War, Spider-Man, Red Dead 2 will be it for this year), and this will probably continue for many years to come.

Well that's where you and I have always differed, Nick. You, in your own words, will only buy and play those titles that have a high Metacritic score, whereas I play and still throughly enjoy many older games, more so than newer titles. Given the choice I'd much rather blast my way through Duke Nukem 3D again than many of this generations "big hitters".

For me it's not a question of having time, it's more that I care little for current and future releases. But hey, everyone gets something different from gaming.

Not quite, half the games I buy I keep. I still dig out the Dreamcast every now and again when I'm feeling nostalgic, and I've also got about 60 boxed PlaSyation games spanning 20 odd years that I'll hopefully be able to run on a PS5.

There was a recent thread asking why we play games, for me the main reasons were nostalgia, but also innovation, gaming continued to impress me with its evolution in a way that no other media does.
