Hope they allow for multiple desktops. Linux has had that for years so it's about time they caught up.

Just realised what that was. :fp:

Oh well, at least that's something to look forward to. Not having that feature always felt like they were deliberately making life more difficult for people trying to work on a single monitor.

I think at this point I'll wait for Windows 9 and skip Windows 8 entirely.

I think it's already possible to have multiple monitors on one screen you just need a small third party program. Try and find mdesktop or desktop 2.0 if you want to try.

Hope this will have a messenger service installed like Windows 8 did when it first came out, loved that feature, then they got rid of it in 8.1 :fp:

Given that they're closing MSN down I wouldn't be too hopeful if I were you.

Also they have taken the Facebook Messenger etc. stuff out of the messaging app on WP8.1 I would surprised if it goes back in.

Still kind of flat and ugly looking like in 8 with lazy/poor attention to the aesthetics. For example, the new start menu is not not transparent, despite the fact that the task bar is transparent. If you are going to pick a theme at least be consistent.

Of course, it is still in development so they will probably address those kinds of things.

The start button is transparent on 8.1 so I am guessing it will end up that way.

Also the "flat" style is the in thing at the moment everything will be that way soon.

I know it's not going to be popular but can you still have a start screen, I really like it?

The Start button is transparent in 8.1 until you mouse over it, at which point it animates and turns opaque.

It's personal preference I guess, but I much prefer Windows 8's flat windows to Windows 7's curves and glass effects. It might just be a case of adapting.

Yep! There's a checkbox to choose either the menu or the screen, which is shown at the end of the first "leaked" video. I think I'll be sticking with the screen myself.

I'm guessing that manufacturers of mobile devices will set them so that it has that enabled by default. Otherwise the start menu is preferable for anyone who buys the OS for the purpose of installing an ordinary pc.

That's the idea. I'm not sure if it was implemented or not, but I think 8.1 might already boot to desktop or the Start screen based on whether you have a touchscreen or not, and possibly change what apps stuff opens in by default. I imagine the Start screen or menu would be picked in a similar way.
