He had to download and install Win 10 as it didn't work through the normal update process. I've not had a go of it on his tablet, but I have my own Acer tablet (which is basically an i5 PC pushed into a tablet). My upgrade was a strawberry float up of epic proportions, it didn't work and after trying it wanted to revert to Windows 8.1 but couldn't and got stuck in a reboot -> Reinstalling Win 8 -> Can't reinstall Win 8 -> reboot cycle. I had to format it, download Win 10 and generate a new key from my MSDN license as I no longer had one after the format. :x Then I discovered I'd installed the 32 bit version instead of 64 bit so I had to format and reinstall again. :x

He didn't have this problem though, Win 10 just didn't install through the normal update so he just downloaded and installed without problem.

Personally, I don't find Win10 a massive improvement over 8, but you only have a year to decide you want it from July 28th, after that it will no longer be free.

Same here, it is pretty!!

I'm not sure I understand the point of it.

"SURFACE PRO 4, THE TABLET THAT REPLACES YOUR LAPTOP"
"But what if you want all this tablet power and functionality in a laptop?"

It's like they've literally just said no-one should ever want what they then seconds later announce. It's not even a laptop, is it? The screen comes off so it's like a hybrid tablet anyway.

Why don't all Surface tablets have the useful keyboard hinge and make them all laptop/tablets? :?

wow that sounds like you had one of the nightmare ones. I've got till next year still so i'll probably wait until the last moment and then give it a spin as hopefully by then it should be a bit smoother.

Hi Guys.

Can anyone help me as maybe you have come across this before . I've been having some annoying issues with Windows 10 recently.

1st issue is that Windows update in the update and security section is not working. Basically it does not load anything and i just get the loading dots going across the top of the windows update box. All other sections work fine.

2nd issue is that sometimes windows is hanging when i restart the pc. It will just get stuck on the restarting circle page.

I've looked around the net and i can't find an answer or fix that works. I've tried a couple of things but it's all been useless.

You can update manually using the media creation tool. There is an update option.

Apparently there is also a block on the update on anyone who recently upgraded from an old version of windows in the last 30 days just in case you wish to roll back which is nice.

The two worst parts of the experience were they massive jaggies on the circle (you will see) on the copying files screen and the stupid long time it takes for you to actually get to use your system after it tells you it's updated your system.

Just realised it added all the crap I removed when I first installed 10. Ho hum, now to check if all the settings have been set to snoop again.

Are they any compatibility issues of between Windows 7 and Windows 10? I want to update my work PC but I'm not sure everyone on Windows 7 is in the same boat so don't want to muck with the system there.

My Windows 7 desktop can't be upgraded as apparently it doesn't have a compatible 'networking device' installed.

Updating now, wish I'd have looked yesterday for it to do this slow arsed update when I was out shopping not when I fancied a quick Fifa match :x

1 problem I've constantly had since upgrading to W10 is my Bluetooth keeps constantly switching on and off. Updating drivers did nothing to fix it and uninstalling them and installing again did nothing either and its still doing it. Does my nut in.

I had an issue with the update changing my nvidia graphics card settings even though I selected keep settings. The bloody thing activated the Stereoscopic option. Oh and it changed the physx option also.

Yeah my Nvidia stereoscopic option randomly activated yesterday as well. Really threw me when I launched Fallout 4 and everything was rather oddly coloured.

Anyone had any wifi issues since the update? My machine boots up, connects to the 5G network, then drops and cant see it anymore.

Yeah I've been getting a lot of WiFi drops lately and it's definitely noticeably worse on my 5G network to the point of near unusable. 2G is a lot more stable, but still occasionally drops needing the adapter to be disabled and re-enabled.

Yep been having Wifi drops on my Surface pro 3 although it's always been a little dodgy.

It had also started to black screen and then refuse to unlock since the update, so I have to keep force shutting it down.

Pretty annoying, especially when you consider this is MS's own HW and they can't get it right. :x

On my machine I fixed it by rerunning the driver install and selecting repair. I think the update overwrote some core files, now its all good again.

I'll give that a go, might as well check for an updated driver from the manufacturer as well while I'm at it.

If you have a Sony computer, honestly don't update to Windows 10. I can't stress this enough. So many niggling problems it's driving me nuts. It never ends! I just can't wait to swap over to a Mac at this point. It's not like you get error messages or anything like that, it's just a never ending stream of silly things. Latest being going to maximise Chrome to be greeted with:

Or yesterday it was the taskbar completely locking up - simply didn't work at all.

Did you just do the upgrade install KK? I had random problems on my Acer but after doing a clean install it worked perfectly.
