Palm managed to include Copy&Paste along with multitasking in WebOS when it launched and I highly doubt that they had more resources available to them than what was available to the Windows Phone 7 team. :shifty:
For all Microsoft appear to have got right with Phone 7 they really need to start closing the functionality gap to competing OSs if they want to be taken seriously.

I thought Google bummed HTML5 too? They've done a lot of techcical demos with it like the Google logos and the Arcade Fire project.

I guess they're holding off until HTML5 is fully developed.

Actually i think the team at Microsoft was tiny even compared to palm. You have to remember this wasn't given much priority at first it was also being done by the entertainment team that's why messenger and office aren't fully integrated yet. like i said i think with nokia's help they will be able to close that gap. Also i want them to have it more integrated with there other products like for instance being able to control my xbox and pc with it.

In fairness the gap isn't as big as made out. The OS is still very young and the first update is only a week or two away. Give Microsoft the benefit that at least it's not going to suffer from Androids fragmentation. That alone is a ridiculous situation.

In all fairness, after some teething problems it'll probably come to dominate. Like the Xbox has.

That's the only thing that puts me off of Android is the update model. I've not used any of their phones but it seems like some handsets are behind compared to other etc.

Microsoft have been prett good lately with the OS side of things. They seem to be into keeping it fast and lean. They're slowly sharpening up on getting their products working with each other. Better late than never!

I've only needed to use copy and paste twice, and both times were to get take a postecode and put it into bing maps.. I managed, somehow without C&P.

Right. Like how Mac users all claim to have never encountered a situation where a scrollwheel or right mouse button would have been useful. It'd be a different story if Apple invented it and it was only available on their machines...

If Office integration were better (ie. save email/ webpage to OneNote, etc.) then I don't think I'd ever need to use C+P. I think something like IE8's accelerators would work better on a phone (select any piece of text and do gooseberry fool with it).

On my phone that has Copy & Paste, I've NEVER used it. Despite using mobile internet and email quite a lot.

Getting WP7 out there needs some top notch marketing from Microsoft on its benefits. The reason iOS does so well is because most people aren't aware of the alternatives. Android launched in 2007 but took 3 years to really get into the consumers mind. Apple were there from day one. Microsoft cannot afford to wait that long and need to strike now.
WP7 is actually really good and does enough to stand out but most customers are aware they can buy it, but they dont know why they should bother.

I've been a mobile internet junkie for less than a month and I've already used it several times.

I'm always using copy and paste on mine. Mostly because I use it for writing when I'm at work, then I e-mail it to myself once I'm home... :shifty:

Isn't Windows Mobile just a new generation of Windows CE? That had copy and paste...

I would suggest that these two statements are not unrelated.

If you listen to Microsoft, it's not Windows Mobile! They want to try and put that and all it's negative connotations behind them. This is a totally new style of OS, despite ending with a "7", while Windows Mobile ended with the 6th edition...

So it's been built from the ground up to be all nice and modern phone friendly, hence the big finger friendly UI.

You'd think that they'd take all the features from their previous attempts and build on them though, really :shifty:

Those Mac users are idiots.

Though you seem to be there's a single mouse with rightclick/scrollwheel that doesn't work on a Mac.

More like Apple already had the world's number 1 mp3 player, whereas Android is a completely new brand.

Look at how gooseberry fool Macs were in the late 80s/early 90s - and the Macintosh Newton. Based on that, nobody could have foreseen the direction they'd take.

They rewrote the entire OS from the ground up because it was bloated.

Given the Newton is the great granddaddy os all modern smartphones I would have said it offered a far reaching glimpse into the future.
