Lumia 550 is out in December, but it's very much a low-end device, expected to be around £100.

They need something more mid range (i.e a very good phone at a mid range price).

The problem is not t doesn't matter then phone they come back out with as the apps support isn't there to get the masses.

There are the major players there but the experience is crap compared to andro and ios and peoples perception is that there are no apps.

Realistically until Google get over their not making Google services for WP it won't matter how awesome the phones are they just won't sell, and people won't move.

What experience is crap? The Windows phone OS is good and although not quite as many apps on Android or ios, anyone could get by with what is there.

The OS is solid, I love the OS it is why I used it for years, but the in app experience of Facebook, Twitter, instagram, Amazon, ebay, etc. Is not as good as android.

The issue isn't the apps not being there it is that aren't good enough, and add I said the perception is the apps aren't there, not that they aren't there.

The OS is better than anything it there but companies don't put the the effort into the apps they should to make them as good.

I have used windows phones for the last few years (6.5, 7, 8, 10 preview) and have now moved to android because although the OS is rock solid and second to none the various apps aren't good enough.

This is my only doubt with changing to a Windows phone . I've been using android for years and its great for apps. I do though really like the Windows OS when I've used it,if the apps were more available I'm sure I would switch. I'm certainly keeping a close eye on it.

The apps are available they really are, if you can live without Google apps you will be fine. The apps however are more clunky than in android. There isn't the attention to detail and refining you get in android and ios but the apps are there and work just not as well.

Thought id mention this. My 1520 developed a fault where the light behind the back button died. I sent it in for repair and im guessing because its so old they dont repair them now. so instead theyve sent me a 930! was a bit surprised but cant complain im guessing its a refurb but looks brand new! funny ill only use the thing for 2/3 weeks before my 950 xl turns up!

More powerful is all well and good but until app makers increase the quality of their apps so they are of the standard of Andro and iOS people wont go with it.

Rumour has it Microsoft are working on a 'Surface Phone' that has an x86 processor and will be able to run PC apps.

Will it run PC Programs like I could install anything or just the Win10 apps. I'm sure they will hamstring it like they did the RT devices, they would have been awesome if they hadn't used SmartScreen to block exe's. If they had allowed exe installs it would have just been another architecture people could support and you could have had anything you wanted then but no they blocked it so you could only use the store and shock horror it died.

I'm surprised they haven't done so already. They've made it incredibly easy to port over existing iOS and Android apps to Windows, and also to make both phone and tablet versions of the same app. But it just isn't happening.

I think if Microsoft wants to gain any traction they need to start getting some exclusive features rather than just working on parity with the others. Xbox gaming could be a great selling point but it's so half-assed that nobody even cares. Maybe they should start playing hardball with Skype or Office. For some unknown reason, the Android version of some MS apps is better than the WP version. The lase Age Of Empires game wasn't even released on WP. :fp:

That's pretty much the point.

It's a bit confusing as Microsoft now refer to all programs (including .exe) as Apps. I think they distinguish them by referring to none-exe apps as 'Universal Apps'.

But the long term plan is to make phones that are basically the same as PCs.

Windows 10 Mobile and Continuum is a test bed for that.

Those of you with older compatible Lumia's, you should now be able to update to Windows 10 Mobile.

I just checked for updates and it started downloading.

I assume still no word on an update for the 920?
My son has enjoyed his Windows phone but when he upgrades he has decided to move to Android, the lack of apps has finally got to him.

I did the same ish. For the most part the apps are there that i would like but the apps that are there are a bit gooseberry fool where as on Andro they work great so I left. The OS is gooseberry fool hot but the app makers arent putting in anything like the effort microsoft have in making the OS.
