Not if you're using the Live functionality, which is the reason I would want a Windows 7 phone. Without the Live stuff, it's just like Android with less functionality.

They wouldn't be able to boast "full Live functionality" if they didn't include avatars. They're a part of Xbox Live now, it'd be silly to not include them.

It's not just Xbox Live it's Live in general, Windows Live has nothing to do with Avatards.

I have to say that interfact looks terrible, everything look zoomed in, the way it cuts parts of the words off the screen is a terrible idea.
Android next for me I think.
Edit: In other good news, Samsung, Sony, and everyone else have abandoned the dreadful Symbian platform. Seems like it's iOS vs Android from here on in.

It works for the Zune HD. I'm not sure its my cup of tea, but I really like the design interface for the most part. If nothing else, it looks very different to both iOS and Android.
The transitions look a bit overdone though, and could get annoying after a while.

HTC are nuts in general, but I think they're taking the opportunity to experiment. That's the only explanation I can see for the 7 Surround!
BlackBerry's are still inexplicably popular though, even though they always seem about five years out of date. I also know someone at work who recently bought a HD Mini, because she was used to WinMo, didn't like Android and thought iPhones were too expensive. It takes all sorts.
So. WebOS 2.0 then.

WebOS 2.0 is nice, just let down by the horrible Palm Handset and Gel Sticker keypad.

The thing about Windows mobile platforms is that they've always integrated really nicely with desktop versions of the OS, so with Windows being the top dog desktop OS on the planet, it would be foolish to write it off this early, even if it doesn't seem like a big go-er right now.

If you want an opinion, it's better than Android but not as developed as iOS.

We've been comparing some Android and WP7 handsets at work, and I use Android myself, and I can certainly see how WP7 is better in some ways. Microsoft have ensured that the software experience is pretty much identical on every handset for a start, so there aren't any skins and custom launchers to get passed. It's also a very slick experience, and the UI is absolutely gorgeous. It's also much much more robust, thanks to MS's Apple style approach of restricting what can run in the background.
Of course, the flipside of all that is that WP7 is far less customisable, and less versatile than Android. Android is generally uglier and less intuitive out of the box, but you can tweak pretty much everything about it to create an experience that's perfect for you. There's even a WP7 style launcher in development! Then there's multitasking of course. As far as I'm aware, WP7 currently limits background processes and save states to first party apps. Close a third party app, and you need to load the whole thing up from scratch if you want to use it again. On Android, idle apps will only be cleared out of RAM when something new requires it, and background tasks are open to anything. The downside of this is that a bad app can potentially cripple your user experience if a background task uses too many resources, resulting in sluggish performance and terrible battery life, something that's simply not possible on iOS and WP7. As such, WP7 can be said to be a genuinely better choice for people less inclined to get into the nuts and bolts of their handsets.
Personally I think iOS, Android and WP7 are all pretty great in their own way. I do think Apple need to give the former a bit of an overhaul though, as like OSX its starting to suffer from new additions being shoehorned into an interface that was never designed to handle them.

I got an Omnia 7. I really like the UI.
There are some bugs of course, but it's overall a really good product for a first version.

Nokia have got a W7 Phone on the way?
I was really interested in the Sony Erricson one when it was first announced but I think that's been shelved? I'd like to get away from iPhones to be honest, I've got a bit bored of them now after 4 of them.
I only read a little about the OS when it was unveiled and it seemed to offer iPhone OS1 with LIVE features. Anything been patched in since like Pasting etc?

I have a omnia 7 (16gb german one though!) it really is a great phone i had a HD7 but got rid of it due to the quality of the screen. I cant wait for a nokia phone to come up ill snap that up straight away. I would say the OS is pretty advanced but not perfect but considering it only took them 18 months from starting it to it being on the shelves i think the future looks good for extra features
