Christie disqualified again :fp:

I didn't see the race itself - tuned in just after but the commentators seem baffled. Anyone see what happened?

Our quality Speed Skater has been kicked out of her favourite event for a second DQ.

Utterly baffled because nobody can see what it's for :|

Did you watch the race? I just tuned in as they were doing the photo finish and have no idea what it was for...

Yep, nothing happened in the race.

No one went over, nobody cut corners, nobody got pushed, nobody complained. Only thing I could maybe think is possibly for a false start but that's a complete guess.

Ollie Williams
BBC Sport in Sochi
Short Track Speed Skating
Women's 1500m heats
On Twitter: Apparently, Elise Christie may have gone inside one of the course markers early on in the race. Not confirmed. Bewildering.
Elise Christie was also penalised in the final of the 500m for causing a crash, when it looked like she had won a silver medal.

It's harsh and it may happen often, I don't know. But when she crosses that line her skates are outside the finish line, sadly. It's fair, if not harsh.

I wonder if she'd come in second they would have penalized her, clearly no advantage to be gained by 1cm but then she did come first by 1000th of a second so maybe that's why they enforced it.

Would seem stupid to do so otherwise.

First and second only makes a difference to the lane draw for the next round... and that's done by time rather than direct placing in your heat (although obviously if she had won the heat she'd have had a faster time than her competitor).

In all honesty, if someone from another country had done that, cost our athlete a place in the next round, and not been penalised, we'd be quite irritated. In the question of fairness, it's the right decision, it's just that the margins of error are so small that make it agonising :(

No excuse for the twitter abuse she's received now and has now had to shut down her twitter account.

Good point about finishing second, I would like to see if they would have enforced it. I don't think it's about gaining an advantage though, necessarily. They have refs to spot rule breaks, one noticed. They had to enforce the rule.

USA v Russia should be good in the ice hockey today.

Why does curling need to be 10 Ends? A single game can be quite interesting but strawberry float sitting there for 3 hours and watching 10 of the bloody things.

I try to tune in at the end - the last three or four ends are always fun.

If the game is one sided, they can agree to end the match after 6 ends onwards.

Good to see some ice hockey on TV. Not the best first period though.

Not a good day for GB overall so far. Hoping the women can pick it up during my daily cross-trainer entertainment at 3pm

I shall re-schedule my gym trip then

Just watching the BBC interview with Elise Christie :( She's absolutely devastated and on the brink of complete tears. Poor girl.

She's had a really rough time in Sochi - it should be the best period of an athlete's career and she's been DQed twice and bullied on twitter. I feel really bad for her.

Ben the curling does start at 3 :( super-rush-get-ready for the gym now. If I watch 5 ends of it then that's cardio done
