Nice one, no idea how much of it Ill watch but I always enjoy checking out some obscure sports. I assume on that event schedule the coloured in days are when events take place and the dots are days medals are handed out?

I love the winter Olympics, but I don't think I'll get the chance to watch much live. Will have to stick to the highlights packages.

My favourite events are the downhill, Skeleton and Bobsleigh, Ice Hockey and the speed skating.

However, figure skating is based on subjectivity of individual judges and is therefore not a sport.

Yeah seems that way, coloured squares seem to be heats/prelims/qualification rounds.

Will try and update the OP where necessary. The BBC have sent twice as many staff as we have athletes competing. :fp:

Im looking forward to some of these events. I like the bob and luge. Last time I really enjoyed the snowboarding too. Is it the same this time with 4 or 5 racers at the same time kinda like in the bmx at the summer Olympics?

I know there's a parallel slalom in the snowboarding, but I think that's only two people. Not sure about 4 or 5 people.

Personally I like the ice hockey, downhill skiing (moguls in particular) and the bobsled and skeletons. Probably won't be able to catch much live, but will see most of the highlights shows if I can (Clare Balding though :dread: )

The slopestyle snowboarding 'debate' goes on, with Shaun White now expressing concern over the possible danger of the course. This is after the favourite for the event broke his collar bone when training on it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-olympics/26030389

Looking forward to this.

Speed Skating, Ski Cross and Ice Hockey should all be great.

The ludicrous amount of money they've spent and stolen on it as well should hopefully give us an opening ceremony too.

Did anyone watch that truly gooseberry fool programme "the jump" on channel 4? "Celebrities" doing Olympic winter events. Thoroughly entertaining to see a pussy cat doll screaming at 96km/h going head first down the skeleton bobsleigh run...

Anyway I shall be watching as much of this as possible!

I'd love to try out skeleton but I'm not a Z-list celebrity and so won't get flown out to Austria to try it :(

This Sochi place and the whole preparations sound like a total strawberry floating shambles.

There's been some amazing twitter posts and pictures from athletes that have been arriving in the past few days.

In all fairness having toilets next to Russia without a barrier between is pretty common in my experience and it's very common to not be able to drink the tap water in even major cities.

Some of those mistakes are just amazing though  You'd think they'd put the effort in to accommodate foreigners and what they'd expect in terms of accomodation - especially when it's something as big as the Olympics.

You'd expect living quarters to be up to high standards when these games have had a bigger budget than all previous winter games combined.

DAT Russian corruption. :datass:
