Screenshots and a trailer have just gone live, showcasing the new HD graphics and epic soundtrack - both of which retain the same feel of the legendary 8-bit original. The game appears to a straight remake with better visuals and sound - fans will recognise some of the locations in the screens below.

No release date has been set, but the game is confirmed for PC and "consoles".

I never got around to getting this for the Master System and by most accounts it's a cracking game. I'm looking forward to finding out more about it!

This looks great, loved the original in it's many forms.

Oh, I really want to play these. The mega drive version that I have is totally different.

You mean Monster Boy? Thats also in development and should be at E3 I believe

Yeah the Wonder Boy creator is working on Monster Boy.

The Wonder Boy games are some of my favourite retro titles that I didn't actually grow up on, so this is a treat What a wonderful visual style they've gone with for it, so happy to see that over a charmless 2.5D attempt.

This is up for pre-order on PS4 at a 20% discount for PS Plus subscribers. Standard price is £15.99, offer price is £12.79. Game releases on 18 April.

The re-master looks fabulous; you can switch between the new and original graphics and sound - any combination - at any time! This is a title that I never picked up for my Master System back in the day and "I'm excited!" about this version .

Will be picking this up on Switch, I didn't expect this to be released so soon!

I used to love the original Master System version of this although I never managed to finish it as the password saving system was a little dodgy at times - iirc it wasn't possible to enter all 26 letters of the alphabet on the password entry screen and the game would occasionally generate a password you couldn't actually type in resulting in losing hours of progress.
