I don't think that will happen just yet. The administrators will attempt to keep the company intact and then sell it off to someone who wants to run the business along the same principle.

Too late now, you should have bought it earlier when it could still have helped. I hope you're proud of yourself.

my local woolies closed down last year, I was pretty annoyed, as I used to love going in there when I was in town to buy pick'n'mix :D

Woolies also own EUK (which has also entered administration). They supply Asda, Zavvi, Sainsburys and Tesco with stock (only books for tesco) so this is going to have a knock on effect .

They also supply DVD's etc to WHSmith so thats another to add to the list. I thought EUK was safe though?

I'm pretty sure the news said that the BBC have bought EUK for about £100M.

I'm just happy I'll be at the front line once the prices start falling. Or more likely, I'll be the one reducing things. No doubt I'll be putting a few things aside.

Well with 385m in debt I don't think Woolies have sold anything at a profit for a while anyway, so no difference there

I bought a kettle from there a while ago. It was adequate.

When I went in today the staff were just getting pestered by some old biddies about the prospect of them losing their jobs. Holding up the queue they were. :x

No worries. We all have shops we hate and I hate all shops that deal with clothes (I'd almost rather get beaten to a bloody pulp than go clothes shopping).

So, peter, do you know what's happening with the stores yet? Have the staff been told anything? Am I likely to find my local Woolies gone any time soon? I'd actually be very annoyed to see it go. It'll mean having to either:

a) risk visiting the local 'indy' videogame store - a rank hole in the ground which, when it is open, is a den of scum and villainy
or
b) take the Central Line into Oxford Street and deal with the smurfs in GAME.

Not a very happy prospect, either way, tbh. :(

So what do you do when clothes wear out?

My mum, who is a union rep at sainsburys just told me becuase Woolies may be going under, after xmas, all supermarkets will no longer get games in (maybe for a while, maybe indefinetly) due to them getting their games/dvds and cds from that woolies subsidy.

Hopefully something gets sorted out or else we are back to £39.99 and about 3 shops that sell games on the highstreet.

Entertainment UK is a viable, profit-making business. It's almost certain to be sold successfully separately, even if Woolies dies. Hopefully there shouldn't be much disruption to the supply chain when that happens.
