How the hell do the us get the world cup again and england don’t for decades? This is the home of football with the best infrastructure, yet they deny us.

Because this time we didn't bid, and last time it was a matter of who could give the biggest bribes.

What he said.

Plus, although I struggle to believe it's been that long, it will have been 32 years since the USA last hosted it. Their infrastructure is just as good as ours, if not better. And the "home of football" argument no longer works as football is a global game.

Europe will be eligible to host again for 2030, it'll be interesting to see if England bids and if so who they are up against.

Seeing the joint bid from the USA et al makes me think a UK bid would be a good shout. Wembley, London Stadium, Emirates, new WHL, new Stamford Bridge, OT, Etihad, Anfield, new Goodison (if it exists), St James, Elland Road, Villa Park, Hampden, Celtic Park, Ibrox, and the Millennium.

Ibrox is falling apart, would need a bit of work to host WC games - you’d need to include Croke Park as well to make it a genuine UK bid. I’d also swap Hampden for Murrayfield as the three stadiums are too close to one another but I think that’s a really good idea, and spreads the matches around the country nicely.

It'd be the Aviva in Dublin, but then you'd let in the ROI but not NI (they don't have a big enough ground as far as I know). Can you imagine Arlene Foster?! :slol:

I guess in a 48 team World Cup it’s not such a daunting idea though, so a true UK World Cup could be a thing.

An England (or even UK) bid should surely be the top choice next time it goes to Europe. You never know with FIFA though.

The reason we still don't have the World Cup is because FIFA are bent (while we still insist, rightfully, on playing it comparatively straight) and everyone hates us. The most watched football league in the world, an over-abundance of state of the art stadiums all over the UK (you'll be able to add Tottenham to that list this year as well), a proven track record of putting on spectacular tournaments and events...

...and instead it goes to Qatar. In winter. The only saving grace is that A) the stadiums will look amazingly futuristic if the drawings are anything to go by and B) it'll bump all that reality-based gooseberry fool off the TV.

That’s a lovely rant, but England didn’t bid for the 2022 World Cup.

England lost out to Russia.

Is it true that 'northern' folk don't care about England as much as the rest of you?

Seen on youtube, lads from Everton, Liverpool, Manu and City fan channels didn't really care.

Probably unfairly. Actually almost definitely unfairly.

The rotation policy also means it's more likely to go to the US because European countries can't continuously bid, and there's really only 3 countries in North America that could conceivably host the World Cup

Probably, FIFA do like back handers.

Russia wasn’t a ridiculous place to host a World Cup though. They like football and at the time were still in relatively good standing on the world stage. I am sure they paid a lot of bribes to get it, but on paper it is not as obviously corrupt as Qatar.

Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay have confirmed they’d bid for the 2030 World Cup.

But they can’t match the stadiums that England have and will have by 2030 too. We have quite a few high capacity stadiums especially if we bid with Scotland and Wales. High capacity stadiums means more tickets for Fifa to sell and it’s why America won by a margin against Morocco. All Morocco had going for them was that they’d be playing closer to European time.

I’d be amazed if we don’t get it in 2030. But this is Fifa. But I rather go up against those three countries than countries like Qatar and Russia. Both those countries have the ability to pay off for votes and Fifa won’t care about infrastructure.

I don’t think Asia can bid in 2030. So thankfully no Saudi Arabia or China bid would be our opposition.

Anybody care to share what times the games started in the UK during the 1994 World Cup?

I think it's going to go:

2030 - UK
2034 - China

England as in the national team?

I wouldn't say the split is between north and south, it's about how good your club are. If you're supporting a League One side then the World Cup is your only real experience with the big stage. All the teams you mentioned are towards the top of the English pyramid and were in Europe last year. I certainly prefer Arsenal to Ireland!

Go to places like Burnley or Blackburn and I'm sure there will be England flags everywhere...

As hosts qualify automatically, a UK bid might put people off of a bid, they would basically be guaranteeing qualification for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. 4 hosts might put people off.

We should go the whole way though and get the Republic in on any bid. Games in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would be fantastic.

But that's the whole point: the UK, with almost all the infrastructure already in place can't host it for what will now be 60 years, whereas a place like Qatar - the least ideal location this side of Iraq - can.
