Why has he taken three right backs?

Why not play Walker in his best position where he has been very good this season rather than playing him on the right side of defence in a back three.

Trippier isn’t really impressive. I knew the Cahill reports were too good to be true.

The majority of the squad is fine. But there are a few odd ones. Rose has barely played and hasn’t looked great when playing. Welbeck is garbage. You don’t need Welbeck when you have Vardy who can do that workman type role and can more importantly score.

I’m sorry Blue Eyes but no chance he goes with Alli and Henderson in midfield against Tunisia and Panama. We can’t underestimate these teams. We need to find a balance.

Should go mental in those games:

Pickford

Walker - Stones - Cahill

Trippier - Alli - Henderson - Rose

Sterling - Kane - Rashford

That's probably the best we can do now but Harry Kane is the only world class player there, expect us to go out in the first knockout round.

Edit: We'd be against the winner of group H which looks pretty average too.

Quarter-Finals is probably our limit seeing as it's hugely likely we would face Brazil or Germany at that stage.

I been going through the past World Cup results. The last time England won by more than a one goal margin at a World Cup was back in 2002 in the last 16 against Denmark. 1998 is the last time it happened in the group stages.

Considering the likes of Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands and even Israel (!) are getting the World Cup in 4K it is disappointing we in the UK are not (there's a slim chance it'll be made available on the iPlayer BETA app on a trial basis for those with the correct 4K TVs, but I have a feeling it'll collapse the servers).

BBC has an excuse (public money; lack of free service from either Freeview or Freesat, the latter box coming early 2019) but what's ITVs?

Theoretically it could have been made available on Sky Q, Virgin Media and BT.

Even Israel, outrageous! They don't even have electricity in the desert!

I assumed by now there would be a 4K channel from BBC.

They jumped on the HD bandwagon back in 2006 when they showed the World Cup and Wimbledon in HD that summer.

Any reason why there is no 4K channel?

Not enough programming filmed in 4K, expensive (same reason a number of the regional news programs still aren't even in HD yet), sets not up to the job (it would reveal they're all made of wood) and no free over-the-air way of airing it yet (Sky Q requires a hefty subscription fee). So that just leaves iPlayer. Even when the Freesat 4K box turns up it's likely to be streamed 4K rather than satellite.

ITV could have done it, but they're technologically bankrupt. The ITV Hub is the biggest load of gooseberry fool going. I bet a number of people would have paid £10-£20 or whatever to stream it in 4K.

2014 was a great tournament, disappointing that there was no official Blu-ray at the end of it.

Is it wrong that I'd actually like to see ITV go bankrupt?

Other than The Chase their output is absolutely dire, dumbed down and, in my opinion, has a negative effect on our culture.

Why would Ali and Henderson not be in the same team? Henderson has been absolutely vital to Liverpool this season in a defensive role and watch us anytime he doesn't play and we have struggled a lot and Ali plays more as an attacking mid/second striker, if anything playing them two together is the best option.

In a three they would be fine. But in a two it would be too open and Henderson would have too much to do alone in midfield.

Take the last Euros game against Iceland, we had Kane, Alli, Rooney, Sterling and Sturridge all starting. Yet we could have been there all night and still wouldn’t have scored. England always have a habit of playing players out of position. Alli doesn’t play in a midfield two for club even when they play 3 at the back, so why should he for country?

I know it’s Panama and Tunisia. But you still need to find the balance. The last Euros and World Cup proved that the smaller teams are getting better.

That would happen with any midfield two for England unless they play Dier and Henderson

Decent squad but defence is a bit of a worry, dunno if he's thinking of potentially playing Walker at CB but it's a scary prospect. Jones and Young shouldn't be there, Jones is poor at pretty much everything and Young has only looked acceptable in defence because of Mourinho's tactics. Would rather see Tarkowski and Sessegnon there as a wildcard.

Well done for leaving Hart out and selecting Loftus-Cheek, Lallana deserves a place on past merits imo, as long as injuries haven't completely killed him.

ITV cant even manage 480p. Football on ITV always, always looks like someone has smeared vaseline over the screen and poured artifacts all over the view.

This World cup, I have decided to abandon supporting England, and will instead support Germany.

The state of some of the posts it this thread. :fp:

We're in the last 32 of the World Cup. If we make it through the group stages (as we should) we're in the last 16. Granted we're not the best side in the competition, but we're pretty far from the worst. It's a knockout tournament ffs, anything can happen. Portugal won the Euros. strawberry floating Portugal.

I'm looking forward to the World Cup but as it gets closer it's bringing back the disappointment that Wales didn't qualify. I should be used to major tournaments without Wales, but Euro 2016 was so much fun that it's made it a bit worse to miss out this time. Hopefully it's not 56 years again before we make another one :dread:
