It was fun while it lasted. That's true for the eventual winners too. Everyone gets to cheer and jump about for a while and that's it.

It's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Thank god for Croatia, could hardly put up with all the nonsense for a day more  First decent team England come up against all tournament and they lose.

First semi final since 1990, kindly get strawberry floated you gloating wanker.

So angry.

Wow  DML you have to be able to take it as much as you give it out (even though I think we are all a bit guilty of this sometimes :slol: )

Hard luck England, as others have said, they really should be hailed hero's though to get to a Semi final. I fear such an easy route to one will be hard to achieve again. I wonder if a fit Lallana or Chamberlain would have made any difference?

Parksey, the usual shitposters and ABEs have no interest in proper discussion - it's all about 'bait' and trying to get a reaction, like when you're at school. Just accept it and ignore it.

The bitter Scots, Welsh and Irish online do make me laugh though. No big or important games of their own to get excited about, so it's all about shitting on another team, in this case for getting knocked out in the SFs of the World Cup. :fp: Trying to justify it all by saying "but the media are annoying" isn't really an excuse, as that's pretty easily avoided, and all of the attempted insults and such are aimed at people who have absolutely nothing to do with the media. Presumably in other countries there's 100% balance and impartiality in all sports reporting, and it's only England where pundits, commentators and sports writers want their national team to win.

Anyway, has been great fun, the team were great and I never thought I'd see us in SF, so that's a real bonus. Don't care who wins now, but it's France's to lose for sure. The third-place playoff has to be the worst idea ever, why not just have a winner and a runner-up? :fp:

Not that bad actually. Was a struggle getting out of bed and I had some really weird dreams though.

While I'm naturally pleased with the result, I'm not going to gooseberry fool on England. They did well to get to the Semis. I'm just glad they're out. 8-)

strawberry float 'em, this is the biggest thing the ABE's will have to celebrate for a while.

I'm sure they'll all be back 'supporting' teams in the English Premier League in a couple of months.

Well, I can only be honest and say that I don't mind the England team or the fans that much but the bias of the commentary and punditry is insane. The Republic of Ireland get raked over coals when we qualify for Euro's or WC's on RTE, we have slight bias during the game at times but nowhere near the same level as England have.

When Shane Long scored against Germany in the Euro qualifiers and Brady scored against Italy in the Euro 2016 the commentary from Sky and BBC in both those instances was far more excitable than our own commentators. It's probably just expectancy levels I guess.

As an aside, I support Dublin in GAA football, we've won the All Ireland Championship the past 3 years in a row and every county in Ireland LOVE to see us lose but I love that, I absolutely love the sheer ass pain of Cork and Meath (among many others) supporters so England should bask in some of this rather than be annoyed but yeah, your media is a valid excuse to see England knocked out to make it all stop.

That’s a bit harsh, the Welsh did make a semi-final a couple of years ago and I haven’t seen anything from the Irish (other than Photek but he doesn’t count).

The Scottish though

I've got no real problem with Scots, Welsh, Irish cheering when England go out. I wouldn't do it if either of those went out, but everyone's different. As long as it's not purely xenophobic bigotry (which a lot is, but I don't think is the case in here) it's just the same as at club level really.

I'll never understand why the media can have such an affect on people though, as it's really bloody easy to not see the stuff that enrages people

If you let the media affect you, you're an idiot.

The only time I cheer against them is when they play against England. When England go out of a tournament, I will be supporting any of Wales, Scotland or Ireland left in. Seems strange to me that everyone doesn't have the same view, it isn't like we are mortal enemies.

I avoid most of it, I just need to put #itscominghome on ignore on twitter next time I guess. It's hard not to ignore at times though, watching any transfer coverage on Sky and Youtube is laced with 'its coming home' meme's. Only Redmen TV on YT are actively ignoring the WC which is nice.

I probably hate Wales more than any other team in these islands tbh. :shifty:

Yes but don't you understand my great-great-great-great grandfather probably walked past a Scotsman once who gave him a funny look and waved his willy at him, which historians have confirmed is sufficient reason for generational-hostility towards complete strangers that you'll never meet.

See, I don't hate any of the other nations that make up the UK and Ireland, they're just different locations on a map. This mindset is puzzling.
