I’m sure it differs for some but me personally I like to see the Republic do well. I’ve always seen the whole of the British Isles as home. Culturally we are all intertwined and very close. If the Republic were in with a chance of a tournament win I would totally support them. When they face big teams I’m interested and will them on to win.

I think part of that is most of England don't see Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as genuine threats. Apart from 2016 when was the last time one of those countries got further than England in a major tournament? It's easy to support the other countries when 99% of the time you're performing better than them. If that wasn't the case there'd be far more more (hopefully friendly) rivalry between the nations.

It's not just football, it's every sport. I've been told Great Britain "is just England" not meaning everyone who represents GB is English but that's what GB means. See Alex Salmond when Andy Murray won at Wimbledon.

Again, watch all the ABE's start supporting their teams in the EPL in a few weeks.

An article on the Guardian had a link to it. It was actually quite easy to click.

I've always thought we should have a UK team for sports competitions. Why be called "United" when we are not? Collectively we'd pull in some better results.
