Problem with all these surveys is they don't take into the account the real low points of each accent.


I generally don't mind the Dublin accent for instance but I know that if I lived in Dublin then the presence of the Mrs. Brown laugh would drive me to burn the whole place to the ground inside a week.

Completely depends, Andrea Corr, yes, Mrs Brown oh hell no.

It's a class thing, lower (thicko) classes always have strong accents which never sound good.

I've also noticed that accents are hugely different depending on age. When I visit clients around the country I can usually tell where the older ones come from (while struggling to understand them) where as the younger ones have much less pronounced accents.

I guess growing up with TV is slowly homogenising our accents. No one can believe I'm from Stoke as I've adopted more of a southern accent despite never living down there.

Any list with Welsh in the top 10 is null and void though, never heard a Welsh accent I've liked.

At my work I get calls from all over the world and nothing gives me the warm and fuzzies quite like French women. Makes me feel all funny inside.

Beyond that Irish lasses and Italian girls.

I'm Northern Irish so not particularly sexy sounding (from the same town as Rory McIlroy if you want an exact idea). I can a really convincing southern accent though so maybe I should try this next time I go on holiday.

I think any regional or national accent can be sexy. If you look around the UK, most places have a distinct, softer 'middle-class' accent and then a more obnoxious 'chav' accent, and obviously the former is attractive whereas the latter is a turn-off. Looking abroad it's harder to pick up on that dynamic (though I'm sure it exists), so I guess for me it's just the accents that de-emphasise harsh or phlegmy sounds that are more pleasant.
