As it's Halloween today, with all its supermarket-bought fancy-dress costumes and unimaginative decorations, I thought I would find out which occasion in the British calendar is the worst.

Halloween, without a shadow of a doubt. I absolutely detest it, and what's worse is it seems to be getting earlier and earlier. I was in a pub earlier this week that was fully decked out in halloween gooseberry fool. Do it on the night if you must but not a week before! :x

Close one between Halloween and Valentine's day, went with the former although both bullshit.

Halloween - does not represent anything 'good' at all.

New Years Eve probably. Everywhere is expensive and rammo with idiots.

Bonfire night as it's the night I'm most likely to be left horribly disfigured by some teenage wanker who thinks it's funny to strawberry float about with fireworks.

Halloween has definitely gotten bigger in the last 10/15 years or so. It could be my memory playing tricks on me - or perhaps I was a stupid child - but it seems a lot bigger and more commercial than when I was a kid.

It seems to be as much for adults now as it is for children. I blame America, as I do for everything.

I have a very nostalgic feeling at this time of year for a time when Halloween was something one only saw on American films.

I still recall during my first watch of ET how I didn't understand why the kids (and ET himself) were all dressed up.

ET's costume was lazy.

It's xmas. It's a really depressing time of year for me personally. The over indulgence, the awkwardness when receiving and giving presents nobody strawberry floating wants. It's all so tacky and false.

I must say, I've never heard of anyone giving or receiving a Halloween present.

I went for Valentine's Day. Hated it when I was single, hate it when I'm in a relationship. Though I must admit I caved in this year and sent the gf some flowers to work, but I'd been having loads of work stress and she'd been dead supportive, so she deserved it.

I got more kudos from her jealous female colleagues than I did from her, mind.

New Years Eve is the worst. Paying to get into pubs and everywhere being full of banana splits. :dread:

Halloween, because I have to keep getting up and answering the door to mostly teenagers wearing a plastic mask expecting money rather sweets.

New Years eve is only terrible if you go out. Much better to just buy a load of stuff at Tesco or something and have a party at home.

Just turn off your hall light and don't answer the door. 8-)

Just to add, I actually don't mind Halloween. Probably stems from a love of horror films, etc. But it ought not to go on for more than a single evening. Staff I the ASDA at my office were dressed up yesterday, FFS. No need.

I also have come to resent Mothers' Day, because I know I'm right about the apostrophe placement, but nobody seems to listen. Not even the creator of the day, who is wrong. :shifty:
