A hypothetical here but would you play a great game (maybe a Zelda game or the next Horizon title) if it transpired that the development staff were a bunch of Nazi's?

I'm slightly conflicted here as if it was a really good VR space flight simulator I think I would so does that make me a bad person?

Only if they were grammar Nazis.

You're not planning on playing Etnic Cleansing, are you, Pete?

Not that it fits the description of "good game" either.

If you really wanted to play a game made by actual NAZIs but not support them, just pirate it, I guess?

Maybe, but I'd find it difficult not to concentrate on the fact that a Nazi made it.

In all seriousness though, no I wouldn't

It’s an interesting question actually. Henry Ford was a known antisemite as well as being the only American discussed favourably in Mein Kampf and it never really hurt his business, same could be said for Hugo Boss who was a member of the Nazi party and made the uniforms for the SS.

I found that my enjoyment of L.A. Noire was impacted somewhat by knowing how tyrannical the head of the studio was, and how badly the devs were treated. So no, I probably couldn't in good conscience play a "good" game made by Nazis.

Didn’t know that re Hogo Boss, thank you. Although I read, (Wikipedia), that he was only one of 15,000 companies that suppliec uniforms for the Nazis. All is complex!.....

Maybe there's a camp you can attend to work on your concentration.

I was going to ask 'what type of Nazi? Merely people with far right politics or actual WWII era nazis that did very bad things?'

But then I thought 'What about a great game from a serial killer?' Does great art stop being art just because it was created by bad people?

Let's say the best ever Zelda game (or whatever is your favourite franchise) was made by a killer - would you really avoid it?

I don't think I would, but whilst playing it I would ponder their state of mind and how somebody so bad created something so good.

That reminds me of a joke I heard once pretty sure it was on an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks about the difference between Michael Jackson and Gary Glitter being that Jackson wrote better songs.

Well we have already used Nazi research for so many things it begs the question where do you draw the line? But for me the Gary Glitter and Michael Jackson examples generally suggest I couldn't play a game by someone that far gone.

The question isn’t whether a game stops being a game because of the views or practices of its creators but whether the audience has a responsibility to themselves and society to not support the works of people with such extreme, damaging views.

So no, if the single greatest game of all time was primarily created by Nazis I can live with never even thinking of touching it. It wouldn’t exactly be the end of my personal world that I passed up a work of entertainment.

I think we could just ask:

Is anyone here a Lostprophets fan?
