Would you want achievements to be carried over to Xbox 720?

Anything to do with games at all.

Should Achievements be caried over to the next Xbox?

I'd like to see it set up like;

360 Score; 15,000
720 Score; 3,000
Total; 18.000

Persistence is the only thing which gives achievements any worth, in my mind. I don't give a gooseberry fool about, say PSN trophies or on any other format (what I really mean is on various PC games/websites) simply because those aren't my main gaming platform - I've already starting getting a decent number on my 360 and I don't want to earn any more that aren't going to contribute to that. It's like being told to start again in an RPG after already having a high level character.

I care (slightly) about my 360 achievements, which I didn't at all, to begin with. Starting fresh on the next console will mean they'll have to win me over to them again.

But to be honest I don't care. It's not something I consider when buying a game, let alone a console.

On the whole, I prefer high scores anyway. Having more gamerpoints than me means absolutely nothing. All it means is you could be bothered to sit through far more poor games than I could. There are a few achievements (Mile High Club, etc) which are exceptions to this, but your gamerscore is more an indication of how little your time is worth than anything else.

I don't know, some achievements do really mean something. As you rightly point out, getting Mile High Club marked the end of a bitter, long, incredibly hard but desperately rewarding slog through the CoD4 Veteran difficulty. I know the achievement itself doesn't lessen this, but everytime I see it on my history it makes me smile a little.

I'd rather view achievements as souvenirs more than anything else. It's why achievements like 'Kill 300 enemies with a spoon' bore the living gooseberry fool out of me and really put me off when I see them available. With achievements like that, I always think that if I get them anyay during play then it's a bonus but I'm never going to go out of my way to get them. but seeing achievements on Halo Wars for winning round in less than ten minutes or with less than ten units really made me think and strategise and see the game in a new way.

As I say; achievements work best viewed as souvenirs.

I actually read somewhere (don't ask me where) that MS would carry it over when planning a new console. Which i'm happy about.

If you don't want a gamerscore when you buy the new one, then get a new account when your subscription runs out. Simple.

I would like to see the achievements carried over but also the 720 needs full backwards compatibility.

Yes they should definitely be carried over, history and everything else. I like to look back at when I last played games and when I unlocked certain achievements.

Keep the Achievements as they are and convert the Gamer Score into MS Points for use in the Marketplace/Arcade

I've been thinking about this.

Is there any way they could combine this with their new-found hatred of the pre-owned market? Could they not have the same system they have now, with achievements worth points, but the first time those achievements are unlocked the points are also credited as MS points too?

I mean, what's 1000G worth, £10 or whatever? It's not impossible.

Good contribution.
