Writing a CV - How can I explain only one year of uni?

Basically I started a computer science degree last year and I failed a few of my exams. One of the maths exams was worth 1/3rd of the whole course and so it had a big impact on my overall mark and it meant that I have to do my resits next summer instead of last month when everyone else was doing them, which basically means I have a year off and I need to get a full-time job to pay my bills.

I'm writing my CV now and I don't know how to explain only being at university for one year. I intend to sit my exams in the summer and so hopefully I can carry on with university next year, but I don't want to say that as no one will give me a job if they know I'm going to quit in a year. I also don't want to say that I failed my 1st year and dropped out as that will also make me look bad.

What should I write on my CV?

It was last year. I can't just pretend I've done nothing for the last year and if I tell them the truth that I am going back to uni next year then I'll never get a job.

"Uni wasn't for me. I'm looking for something more fulfilling and rewarding, which I feel this position offers".

You don't want to tell them you can't spell simple words, so don't put that.

You could say you got kicked out over an... incident, that what you and the university considered to be appropriate behaviour were poles apart.

The Fascists.

I fail to see how that couldn't work.

Aaaaaron's suggestion is good, don't dwell on it any more than that.

Don't say you quit or you failed. Say you're going to resume your studies next year. You took this year out because it was going to be a gap year, but due to some unforseen circumstances, your funding has falled through and your having to look for paid employment. (If they ask you, just say your dad lost his job or something and you've lent him the money)

That would be setting yourself up to be found out. Don't lie - just do the generalised bullshit one.

Quite simply just don't put it down. If you must account for the year say you were travelling (and mention somewhere you had actually been)

I'm taking a year out too before my 3rd year as Uni was doing my head in. Looking for a job also. I'd go with what AaronAyl said. That's more or less what I will put. I plan to go back to uni next year but there's no need to tell them that. If they ask if I'm going back next year, I'll just say no. Just...ya know, gotta find a job first. :shifty:

Don't you remember, you were travelling for a year to get it out your system before settling down!
