WTF is wrong with my mouse?

So I turned on my PC just now, and my mouse has gone all gooseberry fool. At seemingly random times, I'll click on something once and let go of the button, but the icon or whatever will react as though I've still got the button held down, and so I'll start dragging/highlighting everything.

Sometimes it'll take several clicks to, say, minimise something, because it reacts like I'm in 'highlighting/dragging' mode. Even the right button plays up. I don't think it's anything to do with the hardware itself, as this has happened before, months ago, a few times.

Nothing's changed with my settings, as it was all fine last night, and I've just turned it on for the first time since then. The only thing that's happened is some Windows updates have been applied.

Can anyone think of anything that might be causing this? It's unbelievably annoying. :evil:

Left microswitch might be sticking. Take your mouse apart and get a cotton bud and some ethanol on it.

Perhaps it was. Seems ok now though. strawberry floating thing.

Yeah dirty micro-switch, either that our you need to update/rollback your drivers if it's a special mouse.

My mate had that problem with his mouse, One of them fancy £50-60 'Gamer Edition' jobbies.

He gave it to me, thinking it was broken. I cleaned the switch, and it works perfectly.

True story.
