Man, it literally was the funniest, but most awesome stare down ever, the sod though kicked me quickly and hit his finisher one me winning; all because I couldn't stop laughing - great times, never recreated in any wrestling game since.

When wrestling and wrestling games were at their best. This game had probably the best story mode of any wrestling game, bar maybe Smackdown HCTP as that too had various story lines that changed depending on your actions. But this still has to be the absolute best wrestling game ever.

I remember the glitch that was present at launch, it completely wiped all the saved data on the cartridge. When they fixed it and sent out the new carts they had removed the strawberry floating blood without any explaination at all. Pathetic :x

Still the best wrestling game ever. The intro was fantastic.

I've got a copy of both :D

The glitch wasn't a problem, it just proved how bad people looked after their games and consoles (it only occurs when switching the console off at any loading point or in a match) I've got the original "glitched" version with all the data I had when i bought the game on release date (with all my CAWs, jeez I made so gooseberry fool ones lol)

Best wrasslin' game ever. Easily.

Two friends and myself used to have some EPIC Triple Threat Ladder matches. I always remember waiting for the opportunity to knock one of them from atop the ladder to the outside, and then use my finisher on the other one. Story mode was brilliant as well. I eventually got 100% on every belt and was a little annoyed that there was no reward for it.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

The glitch had nothing to do with switching the console off at the wrong time or not taking good care of it. It was a bug that randomly deleted the data. Switching it off during the match wasn't the problem at all. At least they managed to sort the problem within a few weeks. I was massively pissed off when it deleted my CAWs and career.

I remember there were still some CAW faces left in from WCW/nWo Revenge which was pretty handy. I loved how awful the entrance videos were, I wonder why they even bothered. Its a shame No Mercy didn't have proper entrances like WM2000, I remember being amazed by the fireworks in DX's entrance.

Some of the finishers were brilliant too, especially the Screwdriver which looked brilliant when done through the announce table.

I remember doing the story mode. It was really annoying that there wasn't even anything to recognise you for getting to 100% in every belt (other than the statuses of each belt) but it was still a great mode.

The entrances were a disappointment after WM2000 but at least the backstage area was quite well done. Thankfully though they left the option for a first blood match in after they fixed the 'glitch'. Even though it was a first blood without blood

I really don't think it was that great. Much prefered WCW/NWO Revenge and Smackdown 2.

Pretty much unrivalled in local multiplayer terms for me.

That being said I didn't actually own the game (or an N64 for that matter) until 2004, but I used to play the game at a friends house on a regular basis, and we used to have absolutely epic ladder matches which lasted 1 hour plus and which were just a joy to play. It's still the best interpretation of the ladder match I've ever seen in a wrestling game, including the ridiculously slow climbing just like real ladder matches.

It was full of brilliant little touches - the fact you could do moves on weapons (including sound effects), the amazing animation for moves (again unmatched to date in my opinion), post-match replays from multiple angles, and let's not forget the amazing grappling system. Some may complain it was necessary to go into a collar and elbow tie up before you could execute a move, but I absolutely love the technical feel of it and the variation between strong and weak grapples was great.

Back in the day I played Smackdown 2 much more, but then I'd go around to my aforementioned mates' house and No Mercy was just infinitely better. I actually dug out the 64 to play it a couple of weeks ago and it still holds up after all these years. Definitely the best wrestling game I've ever played and one of my favourite games ever.

I hated that glitch. The first time my CAW came out after it had been wiped broke my heart. :(

I was rubbish at No Mercy, but I still loved almost every minute of it. It was a multi player classic. I too was affected by the glitch cart though. :(

I must have been lucky when I picked up a pre-owned N64 and a pre-owned copy of No Mercy a couple of years back then as I haven't been affected by the glitch.

They recalled all the copies and gave out free replacements. I remember taking mine back and getting it replaced without hassle so it's unlikely that many glitch copies are still in circulation.
