every controller comes with 2 AA batteries and a case to clip them into the controller. If you put in rechargable AAs then you can charge them with you USB play n charge lead.
You seem to have missed my query. Look inside the battery compartment of your controller. You have the silver contacts on the bottom for regular AA batteries, but you have 4 gold contacts in the middle of the compartment for the rechargeable pack. One would therefore assume that it is
these contacts which do the charging.
yup you're right, I'm sorry.
I've just measured the contacts for AAs and Official batteries and it's safe to have the lead plugged in with any kind of batteries as they're on seperate circuits. I'm not sure how I managed to charge 2 AAs before!
To re answer the orignal battery question then... If you look at the gold contacts on the battery pack, you might see wear marks on the middle 4. If you happen to have a soldering iron handy, put a small bit of solder on to cover the bits that have been worn away, that cured one of my dead battery packs.
