X box 360 Controller

Hi guys I hope you can help me

Got a pre owned xbox 360 elite from game on Wednesday, I cannot get the controller to work I've tried syncing by pushing both buttons on the controller plus the one on the x box but when I do it flashes in a circle on both the x box and controller then after one full spin it flashes all 4 lights at once. Managed to eventually get it to sync last night after about an hour it worked fine but today it will not sync. Batteries are full as I used the Charge kit which is fully charged. It can turn on the console just not sync with it, so does anyone know if it is the controller ? or is it the x box ? or im i being dumb (hope im being dumb), A kajillion rupees to whoever can solve this

You have to switch on wireless controllers seprately. Switch on the 360, wait for it to go to the dashboard and then hold the guide button until it comes on.

That doesn't really make sense.

If you have managed to use the controller to turn the console on, then it must be synced.

If your controller has been connected to the console via a USB charge lead, then yes it will turn on without syncing, this will also connect the controller to that XBOX making it usable.

If you have synced a controller, it should stay synced forever unless you sync to another system. If it is not doing this then you should probably take the console back and get it swapped.



The light status' mean... 4 green segments on the controller...

Constantly flashing round in circles means... it's trying to sync
Flashing around in circles every now and then means... battery is low
All 4 flashing at same time briefly means... it has synced successfully -- or -- you have a message/friend signing in/achievement/system message
All 4 flashing at same time in bursts means... controller is on, but can't find an XBOX (Either it not synced/not in range of XBOX to switch it on/XBOX power supply is off)
1 of the 4 segments is lit up constantly means... controller synced to player 1/2/3/4

There's no space.

It's "Xbox."

Sorry for trolling, that is just one thing that really irritaes me.

Thanks guys managed to get it working, seems to be if I hold down the Xbox (all one word) controller it syncs up. Think i'm just too used to the Ps3 and Wii controllers automaticly working. Appreciate the help as it was stressing me out, wanted a quick game of Banjo Kazooie and took and hour for me to get it working.

you should only have to sync it once by pressing both the sync button on the controller and console at the same sort of time. The green rings will spin around on the controller and console, then flash briefly meaning success.

After that you can turn the console on and off with the pad.

Should be easier than the PS3 as no cable is required.

I'm also having a controller problem, where it seems the battery won't charge up no matter how long I have the controller plugged in. I'm using the genuine 360 battery pack that came with my controller/console, how long do those rechargeable battery packs last before they start to die?

Also some other details, a lot of the time the battery says it will be full but then when I take out the charge wire the battery will be dead.

I had that recently and had to buy a new battery. Mine was about 2 years old.

You can put in AA rechargables into the controller and use a charge lead as you would normally if you want to be cheap.

The official battery packs are just 2x AA rechargables in a case anyway.

every controller comes with 2 AA batteries and a case to clip them into the controller. If you put in rechargable AAs then you can charge them with you USB play n charge lead.

You seem to have missed my query. Look inside the battery compartment of your controller. You have the silver contacts on the bottom for regular AA batteries, but you have 4 gold contacts in the middle of the compartment for the rechargeable pack. One would therefore assume that it is these contacts which do the charging.

yup you're right, I'm sorry.

I've just measured the contacts for AAs and Official batteries and it's safe to have the lead plugged in with any kind of batteries as they're on seperate circuits. I'm not sure how I managed to charge 2 AAs before!

To re answer the orignal battery question then... If you look at the gold contacts on the battery pack, you might see wear marks on the middle 4. If you happen to have a soldering iron handy, put a small bit of solder on to cover the bits that have been worn away, that cured one of my dead battery packs.
