I have seen all six and liked three episodes and disliked three. As a fan of the show from the original run I said to my wife "I bet the poor episodes were written by Chris Carter." Loe and Behold, eps 1, 5, 6 all Carter episodes and all reminiscent of the awful second film (one I came out of the cinema genuinely angry as it was so poor I felt they had killed the X Files).

The show would be much better is Carter was put out to pasture George Lucas style and all the talented writers, producers and directors from the shows heyday take over. So many great shows have been made by X Files alumni, none of them by Chris Carter.

Stayed out of this topic until I'd seen them all. Overall I enjoyed it, I thought it was great that they left the intro exactly the same as the original series. Of all the characters, Skinner seems to have aged the best/least!

Can't remember what the 2nd episode was about, so I'm guessing that was the worst for me, or least memorable. I thought the 3rd episode was clever, don't think that has been done before
where a human bites a "monster" which makes them turn into a human
.

Last episode needed more time, feel that it needed to be spread over the majority of a season and it was a bit silly making it the season finale, particularly if the series isn't renewed.

Yes?

Chris Carter's writing always seems to be rushed as if he is living with the perpetual fear that another writer's strike is incoming.

‘The X-Files’: New Installment Coming Together At Fox

At Fox’s upfront press call, Fox TV Group chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman sounded very optimistic when asked about plans for another installment of The X-Files event series.

“We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson,” Walden said. “I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”

Noting that all key auspices are scattered around the world working in different locations, she said that “hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.”

Newman later elaborated a bit, saying that the discussions with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson have included talks about “what kind of episodic order makes sense. Some of that is driven by schedules,” he said. “Conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more,” noting that the next installment is tentatively eyed for the 2017-18 season.

With strong VOD performance — The X-Files was the second-most-watched Fox program on VOD last season behind Empire — the event series, from 20th TV, was one of Fox’s top programs last season.

At the upfronts last month there was talk about this continuing. That afterlife you spoke of at the very start; is that still there? Is there still unfinished X-Files business?

Anderson: For me, it was important that I thought of this season as being just these six shows when we were doing it. The long insanity of the schedule [demanded it]. I’m open to the conversation, though they haven’t come to us yet. I have no clue when they’re going to. I’m getting on with the rest of my life and I’m booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture.

Read the news this morning on twitter, more x files is brilliant, there were some really well written episodes last season. Compared to a lot of people though i always prefer the one off random episodes, they are just more memorable for me and interesting.

The X-Files largely ditching mythology episodes next season

Fox has taken the hint: The X-Files is going to largely avoid its wildly complex mythology episodes next season.

The return of the sci-fi hit for the 2018 season contains 10 episodes, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back on board. A full of eight of them will be stand-alone episodes, Fox entertainment chairman David Madden promises. The move comes after last year’s revival received hugely split reviews, with the mythology episodes getting slammed by critics while the stand-alone mysteries were praised.

They had better tie everything up in a big bow at the end of the season then move on.

Gillian Anderson just seems to get hotter the older she gets.
