That was fantastic, definitely the highlight of the season so far.

Yea I seem to remember that being a thing.

Something to do with cancer. Or, like, anti-cancer.

The post-Mulder years are a dark time.

Season 4 or something ish spoilers.

Actually that's complete shite, the whole Scully being immortal thing dates back one of the earlier MOTW episodes called, I think, Tithonus. Basically, it's about a photographer who took a photo of death or something and so lost his ability to die and so keeps trying to steal other people's by photographing them at the moment they die. He ends up stealing Scully's 'death' at the end so he can die; the theory going that she's actually now immortal in the process.

The immortal thing was from Season 3 - Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose.
He can see the future and so Scully asks him how she dies and his reply is "you don't".

A story about explicit immortality had been discussed for several years. However, the writers found it hard to make immortality seem scary. Frank Spotnitz, the show's executive producer, noted that after making the immortal character a photographer who was trying to catch Death so that he could die, the problem was solved.[3] The episode was not the first to make a reference to immortality, however. The season three episode "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" featured Scully being told by the titular character that she would not die.[4] This episode was the inception of a lesser-known story arc that was originally supposed to reveal that Scully was immortal.[4] The sub-plot, popular with fans on the internet, was verified by Spotnitz.[5] However, Spotnitz later admitted that this sub-plot was bookended by "Tithonus", a solution that Spotnitz later called "very satisfying".[3]

I'm glad to hear this new series has improved since the first episode. I'll have to wait for it to start next week before I can watch, but I'm looking forward to it immensely.

Memento Mori wrote:10x01- I really enjoyed that as a new viewer who basically knows nothing about this show. It was very exposition heavy but Duchovny's weird charisma held it together.

I'm really surprised by this for some reason.

The core story arc is bollocks, but the quirky 'Monster of the Week' episodes are normally great. Whenever I watch the old episodes I'm always surprised by just how good Duchovny is in the more comedic episodes.

Some genuine laugh out loud moments in episode 3. Rhys Darby was great, only thing missing was him calling Mulder a dickhead. :slol: Dat Scully also. :datass:

The title of the next episode is Home Again I wonder if it is a sequel to the S4 episode?

I'm a bit confused, I didn't watch every episode of the X files in its original run but I'm pretty sure mulder and skully saw plenty of evidence of aliens themselves, skully was even abducted, so why are they nowacting like aliens don't exist and talking down on the believers etc

Yeah, a bit too busy and exposition heavy but it was definitely like slipping back into some old slippers. (Besides, many of the original conspiracy episodes were the same, was always part of its charm).

I only wish the series was more than 6 episodes, although it can't be easy trying to come up with genuinely original & fresh motw ideas to fill 20+ episodes again.

I think it's unlikely that they'd do 20+ episode seasons again, and I think the actors said the same thing, but I can see this being renewed for another 12-15 ep season.

If they do, I think Vince Gilligan would probably return for one or two episodes. He seemed keen for this season but just had other commitments that means he had no time. I can imagine he probably has dozens of x files scripts already written

Highly unlikely. Gillian Anderson has two young children and lives in the UK! If it were to come back it would be 8-10 episodes max, I'd say. Something she can film during the summer during school holidays or whatever.
