Mostly true but some shows do manage to buck the trend. Season 7 of The Shield is by far the best season for instance and season 8 of ER is outstanding. S7 & 8 of The Simpsons are some of the best, too. Then there's season 7 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, AKA the Seinfeld season.

Actually, strawberry float that image!

Chris Carter mentions that there will be a nice mix of mythology and stand alone episodes

I seem to be one of the few who loved Doggett and felt seasons 8 and 9 had a whole load of underrated decent episodes.

I think the later seasons had some monster of the week episodes which would have been all time classics had they been rolled out earlier in the show. The episode with all the flies, the one in the Subway and the one in the fast food restaurant come to mind. Also the guy who could see through walls.

Actually, I just checked on Wiki, and I think basically season 8 is still alright, from a monster of the week point of view (the conspiracy episodes are gooseberry fool from about season 3 onwards), and Season 9 is strawberry floating dreadful, with only one episode (Lord of the Flies) that isn't total shithouse.

Oh God, that said, Season 8 has the strawberry floating Dream Hospital episode.

:dread:

EDIT; Nope, that's also season 9. My mistake.

God that episode is strawberry floating gooseberry fool though. Same season as the dimension jumping murderer and the one with Doggett waking up without memories in Mexico.

And the Brady Bunch episode.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck season 9 was strawberry floating gooseberry fool.

As I say, I think in the past I have actually unfairly maligned Season 8 which is, whilst not great, certainly not the 'Shit-I-Fell-Off-A-Cliff' massive drop in quality from Season 7 that I remembered. I think the problem is that I lumped seasons 8+9 together and am genuinely only just now realising how unbelievably gooseberry fool Season 9 was compared to all the others. I really thought 8+9 were on a par of slightly naff but with intermittent good moments but 8 really is a serviceable if not great season and 9 is just abysmal.

Season 7 helps make the decline into shite a much more gradual experience thanks to the monumentally rubbish VR ep

strawberry float, haven't seen that intro since it's been on TV(Monday nights,Network 2 in Ireland),loved that show. It's not even repeated on Sky anywhere is it?Horror channel needs to get on that.

Ya good thing they opted for a few more X files episodes rather that a movie, the last one was god awful.

'First Person Shooter'? My brother and I are both in agreement it's the worst episode of any television show we've ever seen.

Season 7 did have the COPS episode though, which I loved.

My favourite episode i think ever and just because it was one of those random ones other than of course the proper classic ones was Bad Blood. It was all about Vampires and Mulder and Scully both had to describe what occurred with each of them portraying each other quite differently to make themselves seem better. It also had Luke Wilson in it as a Sheriff.

What was the name of that show we used to watch about the guy trying to capture 13 ghosts that escaped? That was really good!

Thursday nights used to be the bomb on Network 2. They had Sliders on too. And TG4 had Oz.

Brimstone??I think it was 113 ghosts too not 13(that was Scooby-Doo).I think Earth final conflict was on Thursdays too, which I enjoyed.TG4 also had Beyond Belief:Fact or fiction(hosted by William Riker!),which I also enjoyed.
