X-Men: Apocalypse - From the director of the two best X-movies (X2 and DOFP)

Saw this last night, came out pleasantly surprised.

Going by the panning this was receiving I was going in with expectations of X-Men 3 levels of bad but it's nothing of the sort. Some slight pacing issues here and there but everything made sense unlike a certain DC film.

I do want a solo Michael Fassbender Magneto film though, any scene he was in stole the show for me.

I really enjoyed this.

Helped my two favourite mutants Psylocke and Jubilee were in it :shifty:

It's a shame Jubilee is barely in it, seems like a bit of a bait-and-switch after seeing her in so many interviews and promo material. From the sounds of things most of her scenes got cut. Psylocke was completely under-utilised too and they managed to actually make her costume sluttier than the comics :lol:

In all seriousness I did wonder what the point of Jubilee was. Maybe that she'll be more heavily involved in the next one if it's set in the 1990s.

Quick Silver is awesome once again. Best part of the last two movies are his montage scenes.

I hope so. Apparently a big chunk of the mall scene with her was cut, and there was going to be stuff with her using her powers.

btw did anyone else think it was ridiculous Nightcrawler was able to walk about the mall without a single person even batting an eyelid? :lol:

It's a shame the minority and equality theme isn't a bigger thing in the films.

They did the whole minority/equality thing in the original trilogy, don't really need to see it again. It's woven throughout the films anyway.

It's been done pretty poorly.

The timeline and continuity is a mess leading to so many dumb potholes now e.g. Mystique disguised as Stryker rescuing Wolverine at the end of DoFP seems to be completely forgotten about. And what was with Xavier just totally disregarding Magneto killing what must have been thousands of people and offering him a place at the school :lol:

The casting for Cyclops and Nightcrawler was really good. Not sure about Sophie Turner as Jean yet. They could have cast anyone as Apocalypse and he would have still been poor, he should really be this franchises Thanos rather than a one-and-done villain. Angel was pretty pointless too.

It's a shame they've already basically rebooted it once as I'd love to see them just strawberry float off all the time period stuff and do it modern day with the original five as youngsters.

Enjoyable, but given that Apocalypse can basically kill people by just thinking about it, a pretty unrealistic outcome if you are Apocalypse. Was it just me who thought maybe Apocalypse took over Pyslocke at the end and made a swift exit....

I loved it. Had some reservations going in but left the cinema very impressed.

Was that a sly nod to Lego Marvel at the end when they were floating there rebuilding the mansion? Incredible gag if so :lol:

I loved it too. Some of the CGI was terrible (I thought I was in an episode of Stargate or something at the beginning) and everyone looked ridiculous (loved that Apocalypse spent actual time making his team sleeves and cool hats - come on! While Charles just lay around in a lilac M&S sweater for most of it), and it could have been shorter, but I much preferred it to those *other* superhero movies we've had recently. Love me some X-Men.

The CGI was all over the place. Looked perfectly fine sometimes but then there was stuff like the intro credits sequence that was straight from the mid 2000s, and a lot of the fight scenes.

Yeah, I'm not usually a stickler for special effects, but it just seemed really noticeable sometimes.

Not enough Jubilee? Sounds like there will be a Jubilee cut just like the Rogue cut then :slol:

Archangel's metal wings were a bit wonky at times too. The opening credits were appalling looking Maf, you're right. :lol:

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the CGI at all, but I wasn't analysing, just watching a film.

Was disappointed how they handled the Angel/Death part, they could easily have kept it similar to the original story in the 80s. Angel was my least favourite character when I used to read the comic back in the 80s, but then became my favourite after his transformation to Death.

I also enjoyed A Flock Of Seagull's "I ran" in Egyptian during the market scene.

I'd watched a rather spot on copy last night (Chinese HD cam one) and noticed the Chinese version had the opening credits scene cut so you don't see Jesus on the cross, the Nazi Swastika as the gooseberry fool looking planes blow gooseberry fool up or the Russian hammer and sickle :slol:

It's going to do worse that DoFP

Which means Deadpool is now more popular than Xmen, Batman and Superman

Ouch.
