I got the 'Gold Box Edition' of this from Steam a while back and had never really bothered with it. It contains 3 games, of which Albion Prelude is the most recent release. It looks stunning in action. I've done my best to try and capture some of the awesome majesty of the game in this modest video (in HD!) using in-game camera angles, FRAPs and Premier Pro to cut the footage together into a short film.

In the video I'm just making a simple delivery to a pretty anonymous station, but it makes for a self-contained sequence and gives you some of idea of the visuals of the game - epic space battles (which I haven't experienced) look absolutely staggering.

The music is Shulman - 'Retroscape' (which I added).

I made this!

It looks a bit like Freelancer? Can you play it in co-op at all?

No co-op. It's a bit like Freelancer but more like an offline version of EVE: Online in the sense that, although there is a story you can follow, you can pretty much do what you want however you want.

I love it, but have not played it as much as I would like to.

Roll on X4.

Is this the sequel to X2? That amazing side scrolling shooter on the PSone?

No. It's a sequel to X2: The Threat, the space-sim on the PC.

Actually this is an expansion for X3 Terran Conflict, which itself was a standalone expansion for X3 Reunion (which was the sequel to X2 The Threat).

I've had Reunion and Terran Conflict for a few years but never really managed to get into them, last game like this I actually properly played was Frontier, hopefully at some point there will be Elite 4.

X3 is amazing, and Terran conflict is so much more accessible than Reunion was, I havn't had a chance to play this since my graphics card had a melt down RIP  hopefully when I get a new one I will have a chance since I also have the Box set off steam.

Can't wait to see what they have for the next one.

That looks very pretty, Cal.

I used to have the original X3, but it looked no way as good as that video. Enjoyed it for a bit, then got stuck on a bit where I needed to race some dude and couldn't get any further.

What do I need to play Albion Prelude? Is it Standalone, or do I need all the other bits and bobs?

X

Just noticed that the games from X2-onwards are available on OSX. Might need to go back and nab them. Love me a good space-sim

You'll need X3: Terran Conflict to play Albion Prelude. I actually bought the X3 Gold Box from Steam which also contains X3: Reunion, but I probably should have just gotten the X3 Terran War Pack which contains X3: Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude together for £19.99. Might be cheaper elsewhere.

Also, a nice link to a piece about Albion Prelude on Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
