The Xbox (name derived from "DirectX box"[4]) is a video game console produced by Microsoft. It was Microsoft's first foray into the gaming console market, and competed with Sony's PlayStation 2, Sega's Dreamcast, and Nintendo's GameCube. The integrated Xbox Live service allows players to compete online.

The Xbox was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February 22, 2002 in Japan, and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe. It is the predecessor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. It was discontinued in late 2006, although the final Xbox game (Madden NFL 09) was released in August 2008. Support for out-of-warranty Xbox consoles was discontinued on March 2, 2009; any in-warranty repair now needed will not be undertaken and faulty consoles will replaced with an XBOX360 instead.

The original Halo was just fantastic, it was something that could not be done on the competing consoles because of the hard drive.

I loved PGR2 the most though because of the number of cities and car classes it included and it is the best PGR game for its day and if it had PGR4's graphics it would be the best outright.

Halo for the amazing single player, Halo 2 for the immense XBL multiplayer and PGR2 for combining both and applying it to a racing game. And having voice masks. Hearing a grown man sound like a five year old girl is literally the funniest thing ever.

It's between Halo:CE or Splinter Cell but I've gone with Halo.

The first time I saw Splinter Cell with those lighting and shadow effects I was totally amazed!

Yeah no doubt. That game was strawberry floating ace. I loved that gun you used with all the different attachments. And the animations! When you got Sam to do the splits inbetween two walls! Everything looked really fluid

Halo and Splinter Cell were the first two games I played that actually made me feel jealousy over another console (/sad act). I wanted nothing more than for them to be released on PS2. Splinter Cell did eventually and I bought it straight away, but it wasn't quite the same :(

This was from Toby Gard of Tomb Raider fame wasn't it? I never did get round to purchasing it and I suspect its pretty tough to get hold of now and probably does not work on the 360's emulator?

I wish they would just sort out the PGR2 emulation or maybe rerelease it in HD, it really is wonderful!

My XBOX is still in service. Although, I don't really use it as a games machine (apart from a bit of MAME that is). I use it primarily for streaming, it can't handle HD stuff, but plays every other format known to man via XBMC.

They're dirt cheap too, I saw a guy in a boot sale selling 2 xboxes for a £5

The Xbox was a beast back when it was still going. It seemed so much more powerful that its rivals, with games like Conker, Strangers Wrath and Ninja Gaiden all showing off the Xbox's power. And the console was able to pull off an impressive port of both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. It produced some great games, and as far as multiplatform games the Xbox was the way to go.

One of my favourite games was Deathrow. A sports/beat'em up that isn't like anything out there. I can only imagine what a proper sequel would be like, with proper customizable teams and online leagues. Going on Live and kicking the gooseberry fool out of the other team and scoring goals. It'd be AMAZING!

Think SouthEnd Interactive are commited to doing Live Arcade titles now though :(. GIVE ME DEATHROW 2!!

I have been playing PGR2 recently on the 360 and its one of the best racing games ever. I love the fact you have to use all car classes and it gives the game more depth. Also the locations are stunning.

I'd go as far as saying PGR2 is the ONLY racing game I've really gotten into, though that's probably down to it being the first on a console, atleast the first noticable one on console anyway. The hours wasted on Cat & Mouse :)

Rainbow Six 3 was good times for me, airport TDM was immense. Used a tunneling system to fool it into playing system link online, also remember getting buddies over so three of us would take Halo 'online' and play some epic Blood Gulch CTF. Xbox Connect it might have been called.

Then Halo 2 BTB owned my life for a while

Never owned much on the Xbox, but what I had was pure gold.

I bought this for Halo, like many others, but because of the PS2 I never really appreciated it. Games like Splinter Cell and JSRF were purchased, but never completed. PGR2 was just stunning and I remember playing it one Christmas.

Spent many nights playing 4-player split screen Halo 2 (cos i never had Live innit). Was great though even though I was gooseberry fool at it.

Loved Fable, better than Fable 2. But then again I never really got far into Fable 2 before rage quitting (because I didn't save and lost hours of gameplay) and never returning.

Favourite game on the console has to be GTA: San Andreas though. Just packed full with so much stuff to do. Never got bored of it. Plus the limited 2 player mode was a lot more fun than what other people may say about it.

Burnout 3 is another stand out game that I played a lot.

I do miss the days of playing PGR2 with the PG lot.

I didn't have too many games for it. Half Life 2, the GTA Trilogy, Burnout 3, and PG2 as I mentioned. All top quality titles though.
