PostXbox 360 hits 6 million sales in Europe
by Garth » Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:59 pm

The Xbox 360 has sold six million units in Europe following a reduction in price for all three SKUs in the region.

"We’re very excited that more consumers in Europe are joining the ever-growing Xbox 360 community," commented Chris Lewis, VP of Microsoft's Xbox business in Europe.

"We’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering.

"We’re supporting this momentum by putting launch-level investment into a European advertising campaign, launching this week, which shows how Xbox 360 is changing the way consumers experience entertainment," he added.

Last Friday, Microsoft reduced the price of the Xbox 360 across Europe. The Arcade unit now retails for GBP 129.99, the Premium machine for GBP 169.99 and the Elite model for GBP 229.99.

As well as titles such as Fable 2 and Lips, Microsoft is also due to launch a new look online interface for the Xbox 360 later this year.

According to GAF, that's about what the original Xbox sold in Europe during its lifetime.

When I went to Gamestation Sunday the Arcade 360 was sold out, they said it had been crazy since the price drop. Had to travel 10 miles to get one.

It's time to start advertising MS.

Wouldn't it have made a little more sense to launch the New Experience alongside this price drop? Both seem to be targeted at the Wii-buying market, so it would have made sense to have them both together.

Does that include the number of replacements?

The funny thing is if it was then it would be something like 2 million!

I didn't know Microsoft gave out two consoles for every one that was returned with a RROD. I thought they repaired them or something and sent it back to the owner.

Your inside info is always enlightening consolegaming. Sony forever.

I was about to comment on consolegaming's maths failure there, too.

No, Sony consoles don't fail until a week after the warranty expires, so they don't have to replace them.

I still hear stories of hardware failures. Just because you say it, doesn't make it right.

Of course there are still going to be some but most of them will be older models I'd wager. The heatsinks they stuck in the refurbs and the new boards seem to be holding up. Sony have failures too y'know.

That's what they said they are doing I think. They need to but now i think maybe they waited for a casual price before doing so, maximise the impact of the investment after accepting they'll never overhaul the Wii.

Ok so 360 is selling like hot gooseberry fool.....Sony need to do something. I don't want Sony out of the business, they deserve a little failure but the market needs to be split 50/50 between Sony and Microsoft with a constant battle for newbies and creative content and value to be offered to the consumer for competitive prices.
