With the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One now just around the corner, I thought it would be interesting to look at the state of affairs when the last generation launched.

The world in 22nd November 2005

- Brazil were world champions and Greece were European champions, Man City were 15th in the Premier League
- Blair and Bush were in power
- Saddam had just gone on trial
- Madonna was #1 in the UK singles chart

I was 25 and still living at home. I miss those days.

The 360 was the first (and probably the last) console I collected from a midnight launch. I had work the next day so played a little bit of Perfect Dark Zero and Hexic and then went to bed. Was torture at work the next day as I was knackered and desperate to get home to play more.

The 360 launch was such a rollercoaster for me.

All consoles were sold out and I went literally all over London/surrounding areas.

I finally found one at small local shop that sells but he put extra £30 on top but I didn't care.

Remember coming home and playing my first ever online game (COD2) my god, I was blown away . Everyone playing had the same feeling as it was their first online experience as well. Chatted with strangers until 6am about nothing and everything.

Best time of my gaming life. It was amazing

I feel so old. I was playing online on PC for years before the 360 and played a bit of console online with the original Xbox and PS2.

Seriously how many people went online with the dreamcast . 56k heaven

Dreamcast was my favourite console but the most fun I had on launch was with the 360.

I think most games I had on the original Xbox had online play, even had a few on PS2 like PES 5.

Working for Game at the time so was there for the launch. Of course the beautiful staff discount came in handy for me and mates. Condemned, PGR and Perfect Dark, the first time I really got what online was all about. What a console in those early days

Shame what's happened to the brand, probably my favorite console of all time, of all time!

I bought mine 2 years after launch for Gears and Bioshock. Don't feel as though I missed on too much, the standout releases by that point weren't particularly many. Those 2 changed the gaming landscape for years to come though.

I echo the mighty Buffalo. Yep, I too wasn't that impressed with the games at the time of the launch and I stuck with my original Xbox for a few years. In August 2007 I joined up by grabbing the Elite console and Bioshock. What an introduction to 360 gaming; Bioshock was several years ahead of its time and I reckon it still stands up to most games today.

I got mine when Oblivion came out. At the time, it looked incredible.

Apart from PDZ, Kameo, Condemned and PGR3 the 2005 lineup was upscaled last-gen games.

I just checked and I got the following games with my 360.

Call of Duty 2
Condemned
Kameo
Perfect Dark Zero
King Kong

While some of those are dodgy/rubbish, it still kicks the gooseberry fool out of the launch titles for the PS4/Xbone.
