Probably a year though if not longer, MS will be publishing it when it leaves the game preview, and it's only joining that Preview late this year, if it takes as long as PC to be ready, that'd be this time next year to then be published.

So MS have a powerful console. No, the most powerful console to date. Whoop-de-fucking-do. Means nothing without the games to back it up - and on that front PS4/Pro utterly destroys Xbox for range and diversity. And if you have a gaming PC, what's the point in investing in an X1X?

As one commentator below the article says:
Anyone expecting an Horizon, Death Stranding or Zelda: Breath of the Wild from MS are living in a dream world, especially now they're obsessed with games as a service.

Microsoft are so fixated on the power debate of 2012/13 they've totally ignored how the gaming landscape has changed, we're midgen, people want gaming diversity, uniqueness (software and concept with the Switch) and excitement, not higher resolution big budget games.

Still, at least you get a stand to put it on...

Microsoft were great through the last two generations, they single handed my made FPS viable on console and made online gaming something that could appeal to the masses. Outside of that they created and collaborated on all kinds of great projects spanking a wide variety of genres.

This generation they've done strawberry float all, Forza aside nothing but a bunch of mediocre titles cashing in on franchises they worked so hard to build up over the previous generations.

Microsoft of old are, unfortunately, dead.

How can they make the right moves when they're not delivering on games?

The same could have been said for PlayStation circa 2006 & 2007 and maybe even Nintendo this year before the launch of the Switch. I don't think many would have predicted Nintendo would have the best selling console for July 2017 in July 2016, for instance.

I like the fact that it's the most powerful (which sounds a little playground, I know). I'll play multi plats on it. I like the (limited) number of exclusives that are coming down the pipe. I like Gamepass. I like the Xbox One "environment". I like how playing online / the community works. I like the achievements system (and have missed it a bit). I like how Games with Gold and back compat has given me a huge library of games to play whenever I want. I like how it renders HDR which is transformative on Xbox but doesn't quite pop on PlayStation (not sure why). I think it's got a lot going for it. Admittedly, there's little to choose between PS4 and Xbox One but the power differential is important to me.

Nonsense.

Sony and Microsoft have NEVER had a year as bad as Microsoft's 2017, in fact the past 7 years of Microsoft's output (Forza and Ori aside)has been pretty mediocre.

I remember reading on Neogaf at the beginning of the generation about how they'd lost so many studios and how they were heading for trouble and boy were they right.

PlayStation had a similar mountain to climb last gen. Nintendo arguably had an even bigger one to climb when launching the Switch. It can happen. I would be sad to see Xbox exit the market / their market share dwindle further.

Things can change pretty swiftly in gaming. The PS3 was expensive and tough to get performance out of, with the 360 standing out as the best place to play console games during the bulk of that generation. Sony bounced back with the PS4, delivering decent performance at a reasonable price. It feels like MS is a bit of a wounded beast at the moment, with the OX a real powerhouse that - if it gets the right support - could enable them to claw back quite a chunk of the market.

It's like 2018 doesn't seem to exist.

Well MS aren't going anywhere, but this mid gen leap leaves them and Sony in an awkward spot.
I can play Titanall 2 in 4K? Who cares, it was out a year ago, I've played it. (As an example)
It lives and dies on its upcoming software.

It's like you haven't seen how terrible Crackdown 3 looks.

Sea of Thieves is getting praise, and I think it'll be good.

The other game you've talked up is a sequel to THIS...

True but the idea of playing the "best" console version of a given game means it'll certainly get a lot more of my gaming time / expenditure. If there's a few that decide to make the switch, then maybe it'll get more of a market share and those exclusives may follow (hard for MS to pay for / produce an exclusive when there isn't the userbase to see a return on their investment).

I also quite like the idea of playing older games that have had a bit of a facelift. Many remasters offer just this, after all.
