Seems like we could have Xbox One Slim v PS4 v PS VR v PS4 Neo v Xbox Scorpio v NX between September and March. There will be a massive dust-up as they all fight for consumer cash!

4x Xbox One power and all games working plus Back compat continuing, count me in. :shifty:

Looks like MS got tired of being the less powerful console and are cramming as much power as reasonably possible.

As with the PS4K rumours, I think this is a terrible idea.

6 years generations just work, let's keep it that way.

I'd be happy with 5 years but otherwise I completely agree.

My only problem with PS4K was that A - they have a record selling console that's leading significantly this generation so can't see a reason for it and B - It doesn't appear to be a significant jump in power to warrant an upgrade.

Phil Spencer made that speech about upgrading hardware before the PS4K was leaked didn't he? Either way I wonder if Sony knew MS were coming out with a new box ?

What if its an optional upgrade? Sony seem to be very keen for the Neo to be a PS4+, theyre working hard to make sure all games will still work just fine on a bog standard PS4, so what if the second revision is when launch consoles start to not run things? That would give you 6-8 years of being able to play every game and another 2-3 years of being able to play some new releases but not all. I know phones and consoles are different, a closer comparison is consoles and tablets, but Apple and Samsung have shown that consumers will upgrade their tech on a reasonably frequent basis, if you have a significant section of your userbase that always have to have the latest and greatest then why not exploit it while maintaining functionality for those who arent ready to upgrade.

Weve seen with Steam and app stores that the real money lies in providing the content, not selling the hardware, so the console manufacturers moving to a more phone like model seems inevitable really. They shouldnt directly copy it, a 12 month cycle is too fast, 3 years sounds like a better fit, gives a machines 6 years of playing everything before it starts to be pushed aside, gives the console a regular cycle of hype building to generate some interest, seems like it could work.

The more interesting thing here would be if MS and Sony decoupled their releases, instead of both going at (roughly) the same time, what if MS waited 12-18 months before launching the +One? Instead of trying to match Sonys machine they could handily beat it and be the top dog for a while, obviously Sony would do the same 18 months after that but it would be an interesting cat and mouse game I think.

I ended up taking the day off work so I can watch this as I had to change a day so someone else could have it so I'm rather excited for this live now. I think the next 18 months may be quite expensive what with a new Xbox, PS, VR and a new telly so I can get the benefit of 4k.

It seems it is as I originally speculated - the extra performance is needed for VR.

Yes?

No way will they end up in a scenario where they have some VR games that only work on PS4K.

That's the kinda mind fuckery Sega pulled with games that only worked if you had BOTH the Mega CD and the 32X.

I don't think it is about whether they work, just that they will work "better".

I think that MS may re-brand the Xbox One to become plain "Xbox" at E3. With the 360 no longer being produced and a degree of "baggage" associated with the XBO, the re-naming would bring a freshness to the range, with the new Xbox Slim being marketed as Xbox and the new Scorpio as something like Xbox Xtra.

This twist would make the system range feel new whilst still including existing players in the Xbox family.

Probably a good shout that, no need to add numbers anymore, just call it the Xbox and call every new machine that from now on.

I reckon it'll be the opposite, like iPhone 6 etc, I think they'll keep the numbers which in turn will simplify the Xbox to being just Xbox as iPhone has.

As long as it's compatible with all xbone games I'm happy with this as I was waiting until Halo Wars 2 to jump into this gen of Xbox anyway so it won't be a mid gen upgrade for me.

Official E3 Website adds "Xbox One Virtual Reality" Filter. 4+ companies register.

Image

So this popped up in the other Xbox VR Thread and this is pretty interesting. While its by no means a confirmation of anything, it does seem odd that the ESA would go out of their way to add a catagory and that several companies would outright register their product as such if there was no VR solution coming.

The list so far are Rebellion

From the latest Halo update -

The Halo Wars 2 team is anxiously gearing up for E3, where the game will indeed be playable. There’s also – well, I can’t talk about more just yet.

If the Scorpio is indeed as advertised and they are doing a VR set I may not bother with the neo and playstation VR.
The cheapest option for me will be going for the Scorpio with VR as I already have a ps4 and no xbone so it will be less like a mid gen upgrade for me.

I'm just after the best console VR experience I'm not bothered about manufacturer so they may indeed convince me to switch.
