Well it won't recognise my original Viva Pinata disc or Banjo Nuts and Bolts. But it is now installing (downloading) Trouble in Paradise and Mass Effect.

Getting a system update. Hopefully this is me back on the preview program so I can test out the backwards compatibility.

Most of my stuff carried over with no trouble at all, but my World Of Keflings save was not there and neither was any of the DLC, which is a shame. Haven't tried any disc games yet, might give Nuts & Bolts a whirl.

It wouldn't have sold the console to me but its a great feature to have - This along with the 'Rare Replay' disc pretty much does away with any reason I had to keep my original 360.

If it was so easy to do from the start though it seems strange to me that it wasn't available earlier as it would probably have helped them shift a lot more consoles around launch!

They took it out solely to announce it as a feature at a later date

Could've been a mad Mattrick decision to not funnel any resources into it.

Edit: they only started working on it last year so could well have been the change in leadership that prompted them to go ahead with it.

They specifically said it wasn't easy, they didn't think they could do it.

I do wonder exactly how it works though, if they are using DX12 to get the emulation to work, is it a virtual 360 that the games are running on. Be interesting to know.

Yeah but to me that contradicts the whole "Companies just need to give their approval for the games to have backwards compatibility, it doesn't require any extra work" unless they all suddenly had a big light bulb moment.

Like you say DX12 could have been the deciding factor, will be interesting to hear more about how it all works.

No it was difficult for MS to get it working on Xbox One, now it is working getting the games to run doesn't require any extra work. Would seem to suggest they've managed to implement a pretty complete virtual 360 machine running on Xbox One to me (although I'll admit I'm no expert).

Yeah I see what you're saying, it must be a damn good virtual machine though (if that's what it is) to get emulation working so easily, from what I remember (I could well be wrong) original Xbox game backwards compatibility on Xbox 360 was also emulated and that was plagued with compatibility issues.

After getting to muck around with it for a bit I'm really impressed. It might just be me but the games look a little sharper and particularly nice. Yet again it might be in my head but things seemed to load faster too.

It's so cool having the option of a virtual 360 running on my Xbox One. Looking forward to MS adding more games to the list. I want as many XBLA titles as possible. .

PowerPC CPU emulation in HyperV container with Xbox OS layered in.

Gonna have to pay more attention to the 360 marketplace sales in the future, and I wonder if EA will be able to put some of their 360 games on EA Access?

I'm sold on a One because of this. I never thought I would ever purchase one before E3. So strawberry floating good that managed to get this working. There are some talented people over at Xbox.

Cool, not just me then. It really is a fantastic sight seeing the start-up screen come up.
