Absolutely, Nick - but the quote seems to be suggesting that MS sold more consoles in Q4 than in the previous four quarters combined. This sounds like great performance... but then Delusi states some figures that appear to suggest that MS sold fewer consoles in Q4 than in Q3. Perhaps the 'previous year' bit in the quote refers to solely Q4 in the previous year?

BD-R Support coming -

BD-R Support

Updating the BluRay drive firmware to enable support for BD-R disc.

This feature was inadvertently included in the release notes for the July update. It is scheduled for a future system update; we will update this idea when the feature is officially available.

Bolded is correct. It's a year on year figure, meaning last year's Q4.

And besides, had they only sold 1 million Xbox branded consoles in the previous four quarters combined, that would have made the Xbone would have been a Virtual Boy grade disaster.

Yeah, that MS quote was a bit unclear and I couldn't view the source document (I'm on the Wii U!). MM has quite rightly taken this sales stuff into the sales thread, so we can revert to games and console chat here.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that the X Box One cannot play blu rays at the moment?

If so, why are GAME bundling blu rays as well at the moment?!

The Xbone can play blu-ray and has been able to since launch. This is an update so that it can play BD-R discs (rewritable discs).

First step to an easy way of getting pirated games and movies onto the system? :shifty:

Movies yeah, but I doubt they are going to make it easier for pirated games. ;)

Movies possibly but games I reckon MS would be swift with the ban hammer, locking your X1 out of getting online. A risk I am not willing to take seeing as every single person I know who strawberry floated about with their 360's got them bricked from online stuff. :dread:

There will be a market for X1 where you can't play online, but can play pirated games. Having said that, if people are going to strawberry float about with the X1 so you can play pirated games, I'm sure they would have got round the problem of using rewritable discs anyway.

Honestly? I'm not entirely sure who would use BD-R discs these days, considering stuff like Plex exists. I would also question whether it's a step one towards piracy of Xbone games, considering that first the pirates would have to crack the console to read unsigned code, and I'd imagine Microsoft would far rather use ID@Xbox to dampen down any legitimate need for people wanting to run unsigned code (e.g. Plex).

FOVE, a head-mounted visor that tracks the movement of your eyes, has gained the attention of Microsoft.

Developed by a Japanese start-up company, the device claims to be the world's first head-mounted eye-tracking display.

Microsoft has just accepted the device's creators into its Microsoft Ventures London accelerator programme, a scheme to aid promising technology start-ups. Originally intended just for UK businesses, FOVE Inc. is the first Japanese company to be included.

The visor's creators are currently investigating potential medical uses for the device - allowing disabled users to perform computer tasks simply with their eyes, for example.

But its most obvious application is for gaming, and Microsoft has apparently expressed interest in using the technology with Xbox, TechCrunch reports (thanks, Lifelower).

Imagine a shooter where you could aim and fire at an enemy simply by turning your head and looking at it, for example. See the concept in action in the video below.

2 new Games with gold from August 1st.

Major Nelson:
Looking for something to do? Sometimes the thing you need most is a few great games to play, and that's a piece of cake this month for Xbox Live Gold members. August sees Crimson Dragon and ID@Xbox space-sim Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut coming to Games with Gold on Xbox One
