Guess what... Father Christmas bought me an Xbox One! Technically I helped him out in the Black Friday sales and have been sitting on it since. I have about 50GB of Halo: The Master Chief Collection downloaded and waiting for it to finish the rest. I have played the opening level.
Initial observations: The controller is the best current-gen controller for comfort without a doubt! I mean DS4 is a league better than the DS3 but, for me, this feels better. No power brick - much better! When launching there was a system software update that took ages and then crashed. When it started working the first thing that happened was it autoplaying a video! The OS/menus I always thought the XMB on PS3/PS4 was over simplistic, in comparison the OS on XBO looks more advanced with more detail - but they are slower. Going back and forth you have the green swirl. Also, at first use I find them unintuitive I seem to be flicking in and out of menus without knowing what I'm doing. I tried to record some footage of Halo and it miniaturised the screen then later I was somehow playing the game and watching the footage i captured! Nothing in the box that explains how to use the OS, God knows what this is like for a newbie. 360 felt easier to use but nice to see & hear the Xbox achievements blip again. The 360 backwards compatibility I expected to be running in its own app, but 360 games are listed like regular games which I think is much better. I loved seeing (some of) my old games available for download. Does GRcade do 360 game lending, insert the game once and you get the download for free right? I would love to play Oblivion on this but am too cheap to pay the CEX price.
Anyway, when the Halo installation is done I hope to install the Forza Horizon 3 patch and give that a go. Is there all in one manual or guide online that explains everything on how to use the OS and Game DVR and everything? I'm hoping to get the key XBO exclusives like Quantum Break and Ori & the Blind Forest.
