PostXbox One Smaller Games - Voodoo Vince: Remastered out 18th April (p11)
by Monkey Man » Tue Jun 11, 2013 12:32 pm

As requested, here's a new thread for some of the smaller games which will be mostly digital only. Feel free to be make a individual thread for one of the games if you think it deserves it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today at Microsoft's Xbox One press conference, a new exclusive game called Project Spark was revealed. It's a fantasy-themed action game with a twist: everything in the world, from the environments to the characters and enemies, can be created by the player, and creation can be assisted with tools such as Kinect and SmartGlass.

Project Spark will come to both Xbox One and Windows 8.

In the demo, an entirely new environment for the game to place in was created using voice commands on Kinect and touch controls on SmartGlass. Topography and geography were manipulated on the fly, and the creation possibilities are virtually endless. As the game's developer noted on-stage, there's "an infinite number of ways to play, build and share" in Project Spark.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Capybara Games will publish its new game Below exclusively for the Xbox One, Microsoft's Phil Spencer announced today during the company's E3 press conference.

The score will be composed by Jim Guthrie. Spencer called the top-down adventure a "creative take on roguelike gameplay" in a "mysterious world" filed with secrets. The trailer shown during the conference also included a link to the website whatliesbelow.com, which includes a video of today's footage shown during the conference.

The game will be playable at Microsoft's booth at E3 this week.

D4 Revealed for Xbox One

The episodic murder mystery comes courtesy of a possibly familiar name

Maybe you've never heard of Swery65, and if you haven't that's ok, because we're about to let you know who he is.

Swery65, or Hidetaka Suehiro, is a video game director who works for Access Games. His works have largely not seen release outside of Japan, and also have generally not been available on Microsoft platforms. There is, however, one notable exception, and that's Deadly Premonition, a game that is generally quite well regarded by fans of the survival-horror genre.

Now that you know who we're talking about, let's take a quick look at the newly announced D4, coming from Swery65 and Access Games.

D4 is being billed as an "episodic noir mystery". The game's protagonist has the ability to go back in time, an ability that he'll attempt to use to not only solve his wife's murder, but to prevent it from ever happening. While we don't have much more detail than that, we do have a trailer and several screen caps from that trailer for you to look over.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Panzer Dragoon and Phantom Dust creator Yukio Futatsugi's upcoming aerial shooter Crimson Dragon was announced today as an Xbox One-exclusive.

Previously it had been announced as a Kinect-based Xbox 360 game. It will still be Kinect-based in a sense, but with the Xbox One's Kinect 2.0 that's included in the upcoming console.

A pretty spiffy trailer was shown off today at Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference, as can be seen below.

Crimson Dragon GRCade thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21339

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft has just announced an Xbox One version of sandbox hit Minecraft. It's called Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.

The game is already available on Xbox 360, of course. But this edition will include the capacity for bigger maps (no word on if they'll be as big as the PC version) and support for more players while online.

Graphically it remains similar to other versions.

A next-generation version of the game is no surprise - it's the best-selling Xbox Live Arcade game of all time, with over a billion hours of gameplay time already clocked up.

There was no word of a release date or whether the game will remain a console exclusive on Microsoft platforms.

Official Announce Trailer for Twisted Pixel's Next Adventure, LocoCycle, coming to Xbox One Launch.

Reviews -

Eurogamer 4

Ultimately, the whole thing is depressing more often than it's annoying. Twisted Pixel's lineage suggests that LocoCycle is made by talented and creative designers who had a handful of potentially entertaining ideas to play with. The implementation is rushed and slipshod, however, ignoring fundamental problems and expending limited energy on the wrong things. What you're getting for your money feels a little like somebody else's office in-joke: you can sense the well-intentioned laughter, but you can't really join in.

Gameinformer 7

Lococycle isn’t complex, but I was easily sucked into its silliness. I wanted to see where this intentionally stupid story was headed, and it was worth the trip – even if the game itself isn't very deep.

Gamespot 6

I loved seeing LocoCycle through to its zany finale, because I enjoyed the jokes and Iris' robotic line delivery, and because I loved seeing the characters get themselves into silly situations. This would have been a great short comic film. But LocoCycle is a game, and in an unexpected twist of fate, it makes the act of catching rockets, fighting soaring robots, and rushing through the rural fields outside of Scottsburg, Indiana, blander than they deserve to be.

Destructoid 7

Good: A solid game that definitely has an audience. Might lack replay value, could be too short or there are some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.

Powerstar Golf - E3 2013 Xbox One Announcement

Tee up for fun with Powerstar Golf! Whether you’re playing a round to unwind and pro trying to climb the leaderboards for bragging rights, it’s time to load up the cart and aim for the green.

Reviews -

GameInformer 8

Powerstar Golf plays a like a seasoned pro, nailing most of the fundamentals of the sport, and establishing its own identity by applying little magic to a gameplay formula we know well.

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/power ... ormer.aspx

IGN 7

Powerstar Golf manages to successfully marry an old-school arcade golf experience with some decidedly new-school ideas. The lack of proper online multiplayer is a bit of a blow, but the Rivals mode has the potential to provide an ongoing challenge after you’ve scooped up all of the career medals. It’s not a complete hole in (Xbox) One for golf fans, but it’s a good deal of fun if you desperately want to hit the links on your new machine.

OXM 7

With a little bit more attention paid to the power gauge, this could have been an instant family classic. As it stands, it's still an enjoyable party game that makes good use of online.

The wildly popular Zoo Tycoon series is back and bigger than ever! Zoo Tycoon on Xbox 360 and Xbox One has all your favorite zoo animals available for a new level of up close and personal interactions with the animals and zoo, and with intuitive controls and fun tutorials that are enjoyable for players of all ages. From creating, caring and customizing, to building, sharing and socializing, “Zoo Tycoon” has something for everyone!

Reviews -

Polygon 8

Zoo Tycoon is repetitive and a little glitchy; it's simple and sometimes irritating. It's also a smartly designed simulator, accessible for all. It's charming and sweet, to the point that I never wanted to stop playing — even when my colleagues demanded we use the console for one of the bigger launch titles.

Forget them, I just want to see my next task. What can I do to make this zoo better, the visitors happier and the animals healthier? For a game with tycoon in the title, it's got a good heart.

Videogamer 5/10

Maybe I’m not the target market for this and maybe I’m reading too much into the word 'Tycoon', but even looking past that I didn’t have a whole lot of fun. The Kinect interaction, while cute, is less so after repeated animations, and I’m not sure that Zoo Tycoon really knows what it wants to be.

In the end it felt a lot like playing Kinectimals, and that was almost three years ago.

Shacknews 7

However, the rest of us have some globe-trotting to do. These zoos aren't going to fix themselves, are they? Zoo Tycoon may have taken a best-of-both-worlds approach, but to my surprise and delight, ends up being more successful as a "game" than a mere family-friendly "experience."

Everyeye 7/10 - http://www.everyeye.it/xboxone/articoli ... ione_21089

OXM UK 7/10

For all its shallowness, I couldn't help but fall for Zoo Tycoon. While its charms may indeed be too quickly exhausted, they're potent while they last, and there's an overpowering wholesomeness that's difficult to resist. There are a lot of great ideas, wonderful moments and potential memories to be made here that make it more than worth a look, but much like my experiences with real-life animal parks, Zoo Tycoon becomes less likely to delight upon each subsequent visit.

Game Reactor 8/10

Zoo Tycoon is very enjoyable. As a family game it excels thanks to gorgeous visuals, user-friendly interfaces, an abundance of interactive features and informative content. It's not a game for everyone, there are plenty of features but it's rarely a hefty challenge. It's a game to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace, an experience to celebrate and share because it's so refreshingly pleasant.

Yeah I saw that earlier today.

I would say its both interesting and somewhat worrying...but to be honest I didn't like the look of the game anyway.

Did they say Crimson Dragon is something to do with people who made Panzer Dragoon? If so that is a pretty major release for me.

Yeah, I think the guy in charge of it directed the other Panzer Dragoon games. Looks alright, although apparently it's all controlled via Kinect (waving your hands to fire, etc) which is pretty lame.

"Why Zoo Tycoon's an unlikely highlight of the Xbox One launch line-up" -

Zoo Tycoon might not be the most obvious choice of game to pick up on day one for your new console, but it's an unlikely treat - and it's one that could convince you better than anything else out there that you've done the right thing in investing in the next-generation.
