Only way I'd be interested in upgrading would be if they could run all my games at 60FPS. Don't have a 4K TV yet so I've got zero interest in that and I'm not too bothered about downsampling either.

If we don't hear anything by next years E3 I think it's safe to assume next gen has been put on hold until 2020.
If PS5 is out Christmas surely someone will boast about (or have a relative blurt it out) using a development kit next year.

The resale value on the Xbox One S is pretty good, though. Mine sold for £150. Makes upgrading slightly less painful.

From Microsoft’s investor Q&A, someone asked Satya Nadella and Amy Hood about growth in gaming -

Asked to explain the large growth registered in gaming revenue, Nadella explained that Microsoft has a strategy for the gaming segment that really helps the company articulate both the growth opportunities as well as the investment across the various layers of the business.

According to Nadella, the Xbox One is the “highest-engagement console in the marketplace.” Any time a new game releases, whether it’s first or third-party, “the fact that Xbox is where the best engagement is driven benefits” Microsoft. As a platform owner, that’s a “great growth area” for the company.

Yet the strategy doesn’t stop there, because of Microsoft has Xbox Live, Game Pass, and Mixer are all additional opportunities to “really serve the gamers” as they play more games or watch games on different platforms.

The last element, which Nadella thinks is new and is already paying its dividends on the Azure growth side is that Microsoft has taken all the knowledge of what it means to build first-party games, and has built it into services in Azure for game developers. The PlayFab acquisition speaks directly to that. Those are the levers Microsoft has in gaming, and investors will see the effects on the More Personal Computing segment and overtime on Azure.

Hood added that she expects to see in the current quarter a continuation of the growth seen in the past quarter in Xbox software and services. Part of this is consistent even going back a few quarters. It has been a double-digit growing factor for a while, and it’ll continue to be, despite the fact that there might be some volatility in the numbers.

29.4m sold according to EA

https://www.polygon.com/2018/5/9/173361 ... es-numbers

Brian Crecente noted for Variety, Sony declared the worldwide sales of PlayStation 4 at 73.6 million units at the end of 2017. That would leave 29.4 million Xbox Ones sold, at most. Yes, the Nintendo Switch sold 4.8 million units in the U.S. by the end of 2017. EA published one title for it last year: FIFA 18, the usual toe-in-the-water that EA Sports gives to any new platform.

Not that I care, but the article's been updated since because MS refuted the estimates given in the Variety article. It was on my twitter feed.

Also in same twitter feed, Xbox sold 28m units a couple of years ago, hard to believe they only sold 2m or so in 2 years, especially with the X1X.

Away from sales, as monkey states, Xbox is raking in more money for MS than ever before with game pass, live and game attach rates but more importantly, Phil Spencers promotion to Executive Vice President of gaming answering directly to Satya Nedalla alongside the Execs of Windows and Azure rather than beneath them is important.

With Nedalla openly happy with Xbox, MS are happy to pump money into the brand to make more in roads to the console market. None of this interests me really but more funding means better games hopefully and that's a good thing.

Here are gaming results for the final quarter of Microsoft's fiscal year:

41 million sold

https://gamingbolt.com/xbox-one-has-sol ... de-analyst

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad revealed that global sales for the Xbox One are now at 41 million units. This actually means that the global sales ratio between Xbox One and PS4, which has been 1:2 for a while, has now widened.

It also indicates that the Switch, which launched in 2017, and was coming off of the greatest failure in home console history, will end up having outsold the Xbox One by the end of this year.

For clarification, Daniel Ahmed is ZhugeEX from ResetEra.
