I think that grouping machine sales is now a standard tactic by any company that's not "winning". Sony did it in the past with PSP and Vita.

It's interesting now as, whilst recognising that the PS4 is still selling extraordinarily well, the XBO seems to have come alive. For the casual gamer (i.e. the bulk of the gaming market) I suspect that there is very little to choose between the two machines. We know that technically the PS4 has a very slight edge but most folk won't be too aware of that and they're perhaps more likely to base their buying decision on the games and the services on offer. Which is probably a good thing!

On the other hand, 12 million worldwide for both consoles for the whole year looks below par for the number two console. Still ahead of the 360 launch-aligned, though.

Below par but above 360 sales at same point? What's the par?

Windows 10's tablet mode means that all apps run in full screen, no more randomly finding yourself in the desktop with only you fingers to guide you.

Right now I'd say Windows 10 is the best tablet OS out there, MS did everything right :)

Maybe by the time you can afford one they'll have introduced Cortana in Ireland because it won't be there at launch.

Xbox One sells better than PS4 in Latin America in 2014

Latin America is now the second fastest growing gaming region in the world just behind Asia Pacific but ahead of North America and Western Europe. This year we expect revenue generated by home console software sales to exceed $1.2 billion and account for around 30% of total revenue generated by video games software in the region. Console hardware revenues are expected to exceed $3 billion this year across Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

Looking back to 2014 we can see that Latin America was the third largest market for console hardware revenues with total sales amounting to $2.8 billion, just behind North America and Western Europe who saw revenues of $5.1 billion and $4.7 billion respectively. In Latin America the Xbox One was the best selling next generation console in 2014 through official sales channels.

Not a market you hear about much, didn't realise it was so big.

MM you kind of missed an important point that the XBO sells for almost half the price of the PS4. Not really a surprise that it outsells it as a result.

I didn't consider it an important part as it's only half the price in Brazil which is a tiny market compared to Mexico as shown by the above graph. The X1 is currently slightly more expensive on Mexico Amazon - http://www.amazon.com.mx/Consola-Xbox-F ... s=xbox+one & http://www.amazon.com.mx/Consola-PlaySt ... ystation+4

Photek, read the link rather than the edited highlights. The article says it is cheaper in Mexico.

I did. :?:

So, whats your point here? its half price in a small market compared to PS4 or do you think its half price across South America including Mexico? Or do you dispute that it outsold the PS4 at all?

I can't see where it says PS4 is more expensive than X1 in Mexico...?

I think you misread the article. The article mentions Microsoft targeted the market with a price advantage in Mexico with the Xbox 360, not the Xbox One:

Microsoft started to target this market very strongly and with the price advantage over the PS3 led to Mexico becoming one of the top 5 markets for Xbox and allowed the 360 to have a huge lead over the PS3.

It then later goes on to explain that manufacturing the Xbox One directly in Brazil allowed them to avoid a Brazilian import tax regulation thus pricing the console cheaper, and that Sony is now also starting to do that with the PS4:

At launch the PS4 cost approximately $1,800 in Brazil compared to the locally manufactured $1,000 Xbox One. It’s no wonder that Sony have started manufacturing consoles in Brazil this year.

Not that any of it makes a lick of difference to us.
