Xbox One slim coming?

Microsoft is planning to hold a massive hardware launch event in October. Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans tell The Verge that the software giant will use the event to unveil two new Lumia handsets, the Surface Pro 4, and a Microsoft Band 2. Chinese site WPDang first reported details of Microsoft's plans, and we can confirm there will be an event to launch multiple new hardware devices.

Microsoft is also planning one or two hardware surprises for the event, we're told. WPDang claims there may be a slimmer Xbox One, but a lack of rumors around Microsoft's console plans suggest this is unlikely.

So there are some rumours with no backup from some chinese website, and "a lack of rumors around Microsoft's console plans suggest this is unlikely". Can we make a rule against clickbait thread titles?

The Xbox one S IS COMING, that's a fact. There's no actual evidence for it, but it is a scientific fact.

If they were going to announce a redesign they'd have announced it before unveiling all these special edition consoles. Launching a redesign now would be incredibly foolish. Q3 2016 at the earliest.

A redesigned Xbox One wouldn't do any harm. The console in it's current form looks hideous. After nearly 2 years I'd like to think they could put it on a diet and shed some bulk by now.

They should also include the ability to make the HDD user upgradable as per the PS4.

Why, when you can add two external drives?

Whilst a decent workable solution, it looks shite having drives hanging off a console.

I guess maybe it's not the most aesthetically pleasing solution, but I don't think it's really a major issue. Also means you get additional storage instead of replacing your existing storage, and you don't have to faff around transferring your data from one to another.

I don't think MS will have a redesign for at least another year. It certainly isn't the hideous beast that some people seem to think it is.

It could definitely do with some slimming though. It still has the power brick too doesn't it?

Yes, which is a giant monstrosity in itself. Sony managed to include the PSU and everything else in a tidy little package so I'm baffled why MS couldn't do the same.

I'd say Sony got the better design insofar as getting the PSU built in, but to be honest the PS4 and XBO are both ugly boxes. The WiiU is comfortably the best looking console of the generation (so far).

Microsoft could have done the same but it would make the whole thing louder as it would require the fans to work harder to keep everything cool as there wouldn't be much room inside the console. My PS4 gets annoyingly loud thanks to the fans going crazy while my X1 is nearly silent. I much prefer the X1's larger size because it means that the fans don't have to work faster and it stays quieter.

MS will be shitting themselves over the risk of another red ring of death problem. I doubt they will release a smaller version until they are 100% sure there are no problems.

What were you expecting to find here, a confirmation? The '?' in the title made it clear that you shouldn't get your hopes up.

If you know that an Xbox One redesign isn't going to happen, why post a topic about it?

Probably because they didn't want to risk their console melting itself like the last one did.

Another advantage though is you could replace the internal drive with a hybrid or SSD. I'm hoping a 1GB SSD will have fallen to a reasonable price by the time I need to upgrade my drive, otherwise I'll go for a hybrid.
